Part 1
1. The two children in the video are actively engaged in pretend play in the dramatic play area. Describe how the video supports key concepts covered in class in the following areas:
a) Components/Stages of Play & the Role of the Teacher
The imaginative play that Aisha (two years, ten months) and Lauren (22 months) are engaging in the video exemplifies the associative stage of play. During this phase, children are engaged in some activities with each other, occupying the same space and using the same resources, but to varying extent. While engaging in pretend play, children acquire the ability to try out different perspectives and social roles, which facilitates both the cognitive and social aspects of development (Ardoin & Bowers, 2020).
In such case, the duty of the educator is to act as a facilitator. The educator creates a warm and stimulating environment and watches the process of interaction without interference. This is important not only because it allows the children to lead their play, but also to control social relationships to an extent. Research indicates, Educators construct spaces in which children are encouraged to wonder, think and to play with one another (Fleer, 2020).

The principles of active learning are clearly observed in the video as it shows how the children take control of the learning space. a) Play
I chose an image of two youngsters building with blocks. This activity reflects many aspects of play, including social and cognitive development. The kids are playing cooperatively, which means they're building constructions, sharing ideas, and solving problems together. This form of play is essential for developing social skills and encouraging creativity (Rico & Janot, 2021).
The significance of play in early childhood education is due to its contribution to the cognitive, social and emotional development of a child. It gives the children the freedom to engage with the world naturally and enjoyably while enabling them to try out new roles, concepts and ways of dealing with challenges. Skills such as critical thinking, creativity and adaptability are acquired in children as they engage in games with different challenges. Young children also learn social skills, tolerance, and how to share and take turns when they play with each other. In early childhood narratives, it is mentioned, Play is the work of children, and this is why it is helpful for them to understand their environment. Thus, play-based education is very essential as it fosters the need to learn, self-control and even the growth of interest to learn which are crucial for the overall development and academic achievement of an individual (Graber et al., 2020).
b) Active Learning
The image in question shows the youngsters engaged in an activity that involves exploring the environment around them, which is an embodiment of active learning principles. The youngsters engage in the process of discovery, which entices their senses and feeds their curiosity (DeLuca et al., 2020). Such kind of activity is a fundamental characteristic of active learning because it encourages inquiry, problem resolution and contemplation of what they have encountered. a) Your beliefs about childhood. Why is this an important concept?
The selected photo shows some young people enjoying themselves in an open green space. This illustrates my point that childhood should be associated with discovery, creativity, and play without bounds. Firstly, it helps to develop the physical skills, fosters creativity and builds toughness. One ought to consider, childhood as a space of exploration where all children are free to engage with the environment (Smedley & Hoskins, 2018).
This notion is important as it has been proved that unorganized outdoor play enhances the overall growth of children, such as their psychological, emotional, and physical well-being. Independent play for children is encouraged, as it enhances self-assuredness and autonomy.
b) Your beliefs about teaching young children
The selected image of a teacher conducting a group activity for young children perfectly captures my opinion on the importance of giving instructions while letting kids take charge of their education. Constructivist concepts, which view the instructor as a facilitator rather than a director of learning, are the foundation of my teaching style (Cheung et al., 2022).
It is my opinion that teachers ought to create environments that allow children to investigate, inquire, and create knowledge for themselves. This strategy is very important for young children in nurturing their love of learning and nurturing their creativity as it appreciates the individuality and freedom of children. Providing attractive learning environments and encouraging childrens independence while being responsive to their requirements are practical illustrations of this.
