You can focus on a specific healthcare setting as the context of your assignment. Examples of these settings include aged care, acute care, rural and remote care or primary health care.

This 1400- word essay is written and submitted through the online environment of Cadmus. The objectives of this exercise are:

To search the library databases and locate six articles (Australian and global) relevant to the topic.

To write an academic essay utilising topic sentence, correct sentence structure, correct paragraphing, use of a linking concluding sentence with each paragraph, correct spelling and grammar.

To write an appropriate introduction to the topic.

To critically read all six articles [you can use 3 from assessment one essay and a further 3 more articles], when reading to identify the critical points of each article.

You can take aged care setting, primary health care setting, community health care setting etc. take one particular setting and discuss the role of nurses and support your discussion by considering other settings.

you can take 2 settings and compare and contrast role of nurses in those settings.

Example of how to use the nursing standards as evidence in an essay

Patients within hospital settings at times feel vulnerable. This is due to their unfamiliar surroundings and a power gradient between nurses and patients (Price, 2017). As a direct result of this, nurses must build a professional relationship with their patients guided and governed by professional standards. Standard 2 in the current nursing standards of practice discusses that it is essential that nurses can start, maintain and conclude relationships with patients that maintain professional boundaries (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA], 2016, Standard 2.1). This same standard also states that the registered nurse must communicate effectively, and is respectful of a persons dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights (NMBA, 2016, Standard 2.2, p. 3).
