Problem Identification

Tanami Wines Company emerged in 1920 during the Australian modern industry. The company is still under the original family ownership since its emergence. Refereeing to the case study, it is now the fifth year that the ownership of the company is still in the hands of the original owners, focusing on producing table and fortified wines. Much as the company has been operating profitably and tirelessly to meet the market demands, it is now being challenged and its future is scary. One of the leading challenges facing the company is the issue of climate change, which affects vineyards in South Africa, and which affects production of raw materials for manufacturing wines. As a result of the above, some staff members have already lost morale working (job dissatisfaction) since they feel the company may not have a future anymore. As such, Tanami Wines needs to diversify its operation by establishing vineyards in other locations and ensuring recommended irrigation methods to use.

Employees

Job security or certainty of a company's future enables happiness among workers; thus, increasing morale for work.

Increased production, quality production, and increased sales turnover.

Low sales, and low scope of worker retention as every worker plans to quit the job for another company.

Selection of the Stakeholder Group:

Being the very group of people experiencing or showing minimal morale for work, staff members of Tanami Wines will be the primary source of data during this study. Also, the management team shall be considered for this study since they are the heads of the company, and are enriched with information regarding challenges affecting the company.

Data Extraction

This study will employ a qualitative research technique. According to Sagepub (2017), a qualitative research technique is appropriate because it entails different effective data collection methods. In this case, every staff member of Tanami Wine Company will be given questionnaires that measure their job satisfaction rate, willingness to quit their job, and any variable affecting their experience at work. Currently, Tanami Wines has approximately 250 workers and all of these will be interviewed during the study.

Critical Appraisal

As per Sakka and Al-Jundi (2017), for a researcher to discover effective research information, there is a need to assure respondents of the protection of their data. Usually, every respondent does not want their names and other personal details shared with the public. Therefore, there is a need to assure them of the data protection. As such, during the study, the 250 respondents (employees and management) shall be assured of nondisclosure of their information to the public. By doing so, respondents will give their most honest responses to the questionnaires since there is certain nondisclosure of their information.

Before conducting the study, participants were entirely assured of their data protection., this was done purposely to ensure that they gave their honest views and information regarding the study topic. For that reason, as a researcher, I strongly rely on the information given by respondents.

Key Findings

Tanami Wines Company is a combination of both male and female workers, depending on the department in which one works. Following the responses to the study questionnaires, out of the 250 respondents, it was discovered that 157 employees clearly stipulated a high level of job insecurity; thus, job dissatisfaction, and planning to quit their jobs. Moreover, one of them clearly stated that "It's been a dry year, and with the warm dry summer, it is likely to be another excellent vintage bring lots of medals at the wine shows. Which is fantastic in itself, but is this the new normal? The company doesn't seem to be making changes to irrigation, even though these drought years are impacting the water table under the vineyards. How much job security do we have when the key company resource is running out?”

Also, 52 respondents were uncertain of the company's future and undecided whether or not to leave the company. One of the staff members mentioned "I've learned so much about the practice of cost accounting here. My boss takes time to talk with us about why decisions are made the way they are. It's a small team, of course, and I'll probably have to leave eventually to move up, but for now, I'm still getting a lot of benefits personally from working here, and it's a nice bunch of people to work with.”

However, 41 respondents are still happily working and not willing to move anywhere. For instance, one response stated "The pay rates are not that great here but the cost of living isn't so high as in Sydney either, so that evens out. Overall, I'm happy about making the switch."

Conclusion

Tanami Wines is an Australian company that manufactures table and fortified wines. Tanami wines have been in single ownership by one family for the fifth generation since its emergence in 1920 during the Australian modern industry. The company has been operating well with a wide market base and supplying wines to meet high market demands. However, as a result of climate change, there is uncertainty in continued business operations as vineyards cannot produce raw materials for the company. As such, a research finding indicates a high level of job dissatisfaction as a multitude of workers lose hope in the future of the business.

Limitations

One of the challenges faced was financial constraints. The research was conducted using questionnaires as a data collection method. This method was financially challenging since questionnaires had to be reproduced (photocopied) so that every participant could have a single copy. In addition, there was an unwillingness of respondents to provide information. Much as they later consented to participate in the study, there were tensions at the beginning of the study. This, therefore, delayed the study.

Recommendations

Reawakening Employees Morale

Job dissatisfaction instils low productivity, employee retention, and morale. Apparently, uncertainty about the company's future is the overall cause of job dissatisfaction among workers. Therefore, to reawaken their moods for work, the company needs to continuously assure them of the available options that the company plans to take (Indeed, 2023). This will enable them to rethink that the company still has a vision.

Irrigation

Climate change is not the end of production in various vineyards. The company can still invest in irrigation to combat the adverse effects of climate change in vineyards. This will enable the company to maintain its high level of productivity and retain its workers.
