Question 1 (Complete either Question 1 or Question 2 or Question 3, do not answer all of them).
You are a police officer assisting a senior detective on a number of break-ins and home invasions in your command area. In order to finalise the statement-of-facts on the most recent break in at a local home, the Senior Detective has asked you to describe the scene based on the forensic photographs.
Figure 1.1 below is a photograph of the home-owners’ study. Describe the scene. In your description:
- describe the layout of the room
- describe the furniture, and
- describe the damage allegedly done by the invaders.
The wall to the left of the picture is the north wall of the house. Write between 135 and 165 words.
Question 2 (Complete either Question 1 or Question 2 or Question 3, do not answer all of them).
You are a police officer on duty at your station when you are called to a four-car collision one afternoon. The collision occurred in one of the westbound lanes of Warringah Rd at Beacon Hill. When you attend the scene, you take the two photographs reproduced below. In order to finalise your statement-of-facts on the incident, you need to describe the scene for your report based on the photographs.
Figures 2.1 and 2.2 below are the photographs you took at the scene of the collision. Describe the scene. In your description:
- describe the positions of the four vehicles
- describe the damage to the vehicles, and
- describe the corrective action taken by emergency services.

Question 3 (Complete either Question 1 or Question 2 or Question 3, do not answer all of them).
You are a police officer on duty at your station when you are called to the scene of a disturbance in an apartment in Rhodes overlooking the Parramatta River. Neighbours claim they heard an argument and the sounds of a fight. Then, suddenly, everything went quiet. When you arrive, the door of the apartment is open. You enter and find a body. You call for back up and detectives arrive. Forensic experts take photographs and conclude their work. In order to finalise your statement-of-facts on the incident, you need to describe the scene for your report based on the photographs.
Figure 3.1 below is the photograph that was taken at the scene. Describe the scene. In your description:
- describe the room and the furniture layout
- describe the body and its position, and
- describe any other unusual objects that may be of interest.
The apartment faces north, overlooking the Parramatta River.
