ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE This assessment task is part of engaging with place through aural and kinaesthetic encounters. Using the creative languages of music, dance and drama, create a response demonstrating an understanding of the language. You will need to work through the unit sessions for this task to make the most sense. This task is difficult to complete early. Please do this task slowly and step-by-step as part of your in class work.

1. Required text (session 4)

a. Read Wilson, R. (2018). Nature and young children: Encouraging creative play and learning in natural environments (3rd ed.). Routledge. Read Ch 1 Nature play

2. Visit (session 4)

a. Visit an outdoor space. Sit, lie, or walk in the space.

b. Engage all your senses, noticing the sounds around you.

c. Video record short snippets of sound that have captured your attention. Just a few seconds is required, or the shortest possible time to capture that sound.

d. Upload 3 of your recordings to your padlet, adding a comment about what interested you about this sound.

3. Creative response (sessions 5 & 6)

You will create a response to your experience on site using sound. Any response using this language is possible. Some suggestions to get you thinking are below.

a. Your language for this task will be: Sound/music. Create a Soundscape: Arrange recordings of sounds from your visit into a single cohesive piece, or record your use of materials on site in a pleasing order to make a sound composition. (Useful programs: Audacity, Garage Band, your phone's video or audio recorder). Create a Musical composition (any instruments/voice/sounds/combinations to reflect your experience). (Useful programs: Audacity, Garage Band). Create a Speech-video. Examples include a poem or dramatic narration with sound effects b. Record your final response and save. Add to your padlet.

4. Analytical response (sessions 7 & 8)

Here you will explain how your experience reflects the unit content.

a. Connect your notes with relevant resources from the unit (including key reading):

Explain and interpret your creative work Include how your experience connected with unit resources ie. readings, videos, ideas Link to at least two academic readings (minimum 2) plus the key reading by Wilson (See step 1)

More advanced tasks will demonstrate your critical thinking skills by making links between readings.

Additional Tips: Reference list Create a refence list using the VU APA Referencing Style Guide Be sure to include ALL references used in your submission Items in the reference list need to also be cited in-text Items cited in-text need to also be in the reference list Padlet presentation

a. Start a new padlet choose design template carefully

b. Create an innovative, intriguing title reflecting your overall experience

c. Save any large audio or video files to YouTube ready to upload the links

d. Ensure you add all elements to your Padlet: Title Main artefact (30-60 sec video) Creative Response Analytical Response Reference List
