In application, you will find the assignment task helpful in applying design thinking processes for entrepreneurial solutions to a problem. This assignment will also be helpful in providing you the experience of working in a team.

You are required to form a team with three (3) members. Each member of the team MUST enrol in a group online to enable the submission of the assignment online and allocation of marks to each team member. Only one member of the team needs to submit the assignment online on Moodle.

The assessment task requires you to come up with an entrepreneurial solution to a wicked problem relating to any of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using the design thinking process. Working in a team of three members, you need to select a problem that relates to any of the 17 SDGs and then propose a solution to the problem using design thinking methods. Task

Think of an SDG-related problem locally, nationally, or internationally that you would like to work on in a team and apply a design-thinking approach/method to provide an entrepreneurial solution to this problem.

Format

The report should be delivered in a graphic form such as a poster, or an infographic. Only one student from the team is required to submit the report on behalf of the team.

What to include in the poster/infographic?

  1. Problem Identification (5 marks)
    • Clearly articulate the problem you are proposing to solve
    • Relate it with one or more SDGs
  2. Demonstrate how would you use design thinking methods to address the problem to come up with an entrepreneurial solution using the following steps: 15 marks
    1. Empathize:
      • Identify primary stakeholders of the problem
      • Identify the end-users, their needs, problems, and aspirations (what matters to them)
    2. Define
      • Clearly articulate the problem (what’s your point of view based on the analysis of end-users’ needs, requirements and aspirations)
    3. Ideate:
      • Generate several potentially valid solutions applicable to end-users’ needs to solve the problem
    4. Prototype:
      • Develop prototype solution (s) to respond to end-user's needs, requirements and desires (how it solves the problem)
    5. Testing the protype:
      • How would you test your prototype with end-users for continuous improvement?
