Case Study:

Harold Janssen is an 85-year-old male with Parkinsons disease. Harold has just been admitted into the residential facility because he and his wife, Gloria, were no longer coping.

Harold and Gloria have 3 children, two sons and a daughter, none of whom live locally. One son, George, is regularly in contact and visits monthly.

Harold and Gloria were independent, until recently when Harold has had several near-miss falls. He does not currently use a walking aid and has said he is having episodes of having trouble to start walking after sitting for a time, or in a confined space.

At home, Harold has often forgotten to take his Parkinsonian medication and has had periods of immobility when this has happened. He has been unwilling to leave the house and has stopped going to his exercise group. Gloria complains that he has been sitting in his armchair all day and is miserable.
