Aim

The two primary aims of this assessment is

• To analyse the operational information of a business, and provide your assessment on how well the business is doing.
• Provide your analysis of the competitive landscape of VideoChamp as well as how technology has affected them over time.

Background

VideoChamp is a movie rental company in Australia. It has only 1 outlet in Doncaster suburb in Melbourne. Customers have to travel to the store outlet to rent videos. Although many rental companies have closed down their store outlets which includes VideoEzy, VideoChamp business is still profitable, despite an obvious decline in the movie rental industry.

You have been given some basic data on the rental revenues of Video Champ over the last 2 years. Your objective is to analyse the data, and provide your assessment.

Based on the background information provided in the assessment, and the current movie rental information that you gather from research, examine the following concepts in relation to VideoChamp, and their importance in gaining competitive advantage

• Using Porters 5 forces model, provide an analysis of the competitive intelligence of VideoChamp with focus on Competitive Rivalry (Who are its competitors?, What are they competing with?, How do they compete?) and Supplier Power( Who are its suppliers?, Do the suppliers have high or low supplier power) and Buyer Power( Who are its buyers?, Do the buyers have high or low buyer power?, What are the strategies against high power power?) and Threat of new entrant( Is the threat high? Why?) and threat of substitute (What are the substitute products?, Is the threat strong?).
• Discuss on how sustaining and disruptive technology can help decrease buyer power in movie rental industry
• Compare Video Champ with Blockbuster
