A critically damped second-order process has an unknown steady-state gain and time constant. A student named Mitch wants to design a control system for the process. However, without the parameters, the control system cannot be designed. Mitch consulted his supervisor, professor Morrie. Professor morrie suggested him to apply an input change to the process, and estimate the parameters from the response.
