Assessment task 2

Task description

Scenario 1

Your patient is a 50-year-old female who needs surgery to continue to live and to lessen her consistent stomach pain. Every time you approach har tell her about the surgery, she declines, as she says, "I don't see how cut me open is going to help. You've tried to explain to her that the surgery c help, even in simple terms. (We will cut out the hurtful parts")

The more you talk about it however, the more agitated she becomes and eventually she asks you to leave, telling you to stop repeating yourself. As result, you've kept her in the hospital, monitoring her condition.

Today, however, her sister arrived from interstate and on your visit to the patient today, the sister asked you what her condition is. "Does she need surgery? You tell her you can talk to her after your visit to the patient, but your visit with the patient doesn't go well; the patient tries to shoo you out on the room "so I don't have to hear the same thing again."

Her sister meets you outside the patient's room. You see this as an opportunity to explain the patient's situation and try to get her sister to encourage the patient to consent to the surgery. You are concerned however, that the patient has not consented to your revealing her medical information to anybody else, including her sister.

Scenario 2

You are the on-duty pharmacist. A middle-aged woman approaches the counter and states that she wants the morning after pill. She explains that it is not for her but, for a 16-year-old girl who has stayed overnight with her son. She states the girl herself is too embarrassed to attend. The woman does not know how many hours it is since the girl had sex or anything about her medical history but insists that the girl wants the medication as the sex was unprotected and her parents will go ballistic, if they find out".

These scenarios present both ethical and legal dilemmas. Using an academic essay format

  1. identify the ethical dilemmas presented in each scenario
  2. What way out of the dilemma do you choose, and why?
  3. Does your choice pass Beauchamp and Childress" six criteria for weighing what to do in an ethical dilemma? Make sure to give each of the criteria and state how your choice passes each ona.
  4. Do B&C's criteria require that you take additional action. If so, what action do vrai neer in take?

Assessment task 3

Task description

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) represents a fundamental change to how supports for people with disability are funded and delivered across Australia. The NDIS has potential to produce major benefits for people with disability, their families, and the broader community, but it also holds some potential risks.

An NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework was developed in 2016 with the vision to ensure effective safeguards and high-quality supports in the NDIS.

After 6 years of operation the framework is to be reviewed as part of the Independent Review of the NDIS.

This assessment task provides you with the opportunity to undertake an authentic role within the sector.

As a leader in the Health & Human Service sector you are going to provide feedback on the issues paper (attached) and answer the following questions using an academic essay format;

  1. Is there still a need for the framework? If so:
    1. What role should the Framework play going forward?
    2. What should a future Framework look like?
    3. What monitoring of the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the Framework is required?
  2. What supports, services and actors should the Framework cover?
  3. What changes are required to the roles and responsibilities of different actors in the Framework?
    1. How could these actors work together better to deliver a coordinated approach to quality and safeguarding?

Issues papers ask questions about a topic that is important to an enquiry. When you make a submission in response to an issues paper, you help create a better understanding of how the issue affects your particular sector.

When formatting your response, it is important to present your ideas in an organized manner. You need to synthesize the intellectual work of others-- that is, bring it together into an integrated whole. In preparing to write a response, therefore, it is crucial that you allow yourself not just enough time to do the readings but enough to digest what you have road and to put the results together into a unified account

Assessment Task 4

Task description

"Changing public service systems inevitably meant getting into the details of delivery and performance management in a radically more granular way" (Blair, 2010, p.338). This quote by Tony Blair makes us consider what the role of a leader is. Leaders have to set policy and strategic direction; see it is followed; get data on whether it is; and measure outcomes.

Using an academic essay format respond to the following questions;

  1. How is it possible for leaders to see that their strategy is being followed?
  2. How does the strategic management process help senior managers?
  3. How can the processes of review and evaluation be managed as a core part of strategic management?

Draw on all the materials you have studied in modules 1-4 to answer the questions.

Finally, critically reflect on how you would apply the knowledge and skills you have developed in this unit to your own workplace and professional practice. Reference Blair, T. (2010). A Journey. Random House Group.
