Section A: General Information
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- Generate an understanding of contemporary issues in dementia care nationally and internationally 2. Critically reflect on the positive and negative aspects of specific dementia care frameworks 3. Clarify the principles underpinning ethical decision making in practice
- Identify and reflect on ethical concerns and issues in health care practice
- Enhance abilities with conceptualisation of key theoretical ideas and analyze their applicability for dementia care in specific contexts
- Evaluate some of the core processes required for developing dementia care
- Develop personal plans for effective person-centered partnership working in dementia care in their care setting
Subject Description
This subject is a core component of the dementia care courses and will extend the knowledge and skills developed in the SNPG955 Dementia Across Care Setting in the program. This subject provides the opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts of dementia care in practice and focuses on the partnership with individuals, carers and health professional colleagues in the delivery of care for persons experiencing dementia. The topics include: promotion of healthy lifestyles; protection of rights and interests; culturally diverse communities; younger people with dementia and rural and remote issues.
