You are required to consider the strategic plans or annual reports and any further information you might be able to find (such as found on their website) of two different organisations, one of which is a Secondary College, to complete several analysis tasks. At the end of the assignment are listed the possible choices. You must select one organisation from group 1, and one from group 2, to do the work of this assignment. No other organisation is allowed to be chosen.

You must not select organisations that you have used in any other assignment (for this or any other course in your degree or past studies).

Read your selected organisation’s strategic plan or annual report or other materials, and then complete the following tasks in Microsoft Word.

Please do not write an essay. Just answer the tasks by doing the activities described.

You are not allowed to use any form of Generative AI to complete this assignment.

1. Describe the current state of the selected organisations

For each of the selected organisations, describe the current state in no more than 600 words (not including headings) for each organisation.

You need to describe these things:

• Name of the organisation
• Description of what the organisation’s purpose is/ what it does / or what sector of the economy/society do they operate in or what services or products they currently provide – i.e. what is the organisation’s main reason(s) for existing? (This needs to be several sentences or paragraphs.) [2 marks each org]
• Try to describe how the organisation is currently structured – what sorts of staff roles and/or departments are there (or likely to be)? What sort of physical presence (range of locations they operate from) does it have? Diagrams may help here. [1 mark each org]
• Describe briefly any other organisations they have relationships or dependencies with, and state the nature of that relationship (e.g. financial, suppliers of resources or services, any other obligations including information obligations, legal obligations, etc.) [1 marks each]
• Attempt to identify any factors in the external environment (e.g. consider the PESTLE factors) that may affect the organisation’s ability to achieve its strategy. [2 marks each org]
• Identify at least 1 value item for each organisation – describe it, and identify key activities that are likely to make up that value item’s value stream. [1 mark each org]
• Describe any technology they currently have or use, or what you believe they would likely to have/use and explain the ways that it is being used. [1 mark each org]

For the Group B organisation only:

• Identify (provide the name of) at least 2 business processes that are performed by the organisation, and also identify the business event which would cause each of those business processes to commence. Where possible, give an explanation of what is involved in the business process. [2 marks]

2. Complete a Business Model Canvas for the two organisations.

For each of the two organisations, create a separate Business Model Canvas. [4 marks each org] You can either use the template provided in Week 2, or create a spreadsheet that has the same shapes/headings in the same places as that week 2 template. (It is the layout which is important, rather than the specific template you use.) Make sure you produce your Business Model Canvas based on the current states of each organisation.

3. Development of a BPMN model for a business process

Select one of the following business process topics to create a BPMN diagram for, using what you believe would be the necessary important steps:

• The process of enrolling a child into a school, so that the school will have a photo of the child, and have the chance to conduct some basic tests of the child’s knowledge so that they can decide which class to put the child into, and then they send a welcome pack to the parents if the child is accepted.
• The process of arranging and conducting “parent-teacher interviews” which are opportunities for the parents to meet with all of the teachers that teach their child. This requires the parents nominating times that they are available to meet with teachers, and then the child when attending the various classes (such as Art, Library, Sport, Maths) can provide the teacher with a ‘time-schedule’ page so the teacher can select a time slot to meet with the parents, and then once all teachers have selected times and the day of the interviews arrives, the parents will then meet with the actual teachers.
• The process of arranging a school excursion or camp for the children, which involves the school finding a suitable place for the children to be taken to and making the booking, providing information about the camp/excursion to the parents, the parents granting permission and paying any costs that are required, the school confirming the booking and then they arrange for a bus to come to the school, and actually taking the children to the excursion. The diagram must make correct use of notation of BPMN. [3 marks]
