In other studies, researchers suggested that there is an effect of daytime napping which is related to the characteristics especially when it comes to the duration and the frequency of napping. For example, a meta-analysis research that was conducted in 2020 showed that there was an increased risk of stroke which increased by every 3% for every 10-minute increase in daytime napping (Boukhris, et al., 2020). On the other hand, people with more than two times weekly naps were considered to be having lower risks of cardiovascular diseases. In other studies that were conducted on nurses who are working on shifts in Taiwan, it was revealed that 59% of the nurses who did not obtain quality sleep were found to be more prone to higher levels of depression, anxiety and a poor working mood.

Meanwhile, researchers have concluded that individuals older than 65 years of age who slept outside the nocturnal sleep experience positive cognitive resonance (Zhong, Wang, Tao, Ying, & Zhao, 2015). This shows the importance of napping in elderly participants. However only shorter duration maps of less than 30 minutes have been found to be beneficial for the elderly. Naps with longer durations of more than 90 minutes have been associated with increased cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, declining cognitive functioning and increased rates of mortality (Boz, et al., 2021). Considering that the ability to maintain sleep tend to decrease with age adults having shortened naps tends to improve then cognitive balances reduced fatigue. However there has been a lot of inconsistencies when it comes to effect of napping on older people. Other studies have demonstrated that daytime napping has an effect on cognitive performance since it is leading to a decline in cognitive performance. Researchers have confirmed and linked adult daytime napping to be of positive influence in terms of cardiovascular and cognitive health (Brooks & Lack, 2019). Studies have also confirmed that most of the people will prefer to take afternoon naps at around 2:00 p.m. mostly after having lunch (Dashti, et al., 2021). As for for older adults falling asleep may occur anytime because of the weakened body and homeostatic sleep deprivation which increases with age. Most of the adults tend to nap early in the evening because of age-related advanced issues.
