INTRODUCTIONTHIS TEMPLATE IS JUST TO GET YOU STARTED THE POINTS UNDER EACH SECTION ARE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH PROMPTS. YOU MAY HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL INFO YOU WANT TO INCLUDE. LISTS ARE NOT EXHAUSTIVE!!
Give a brief introduction to your project, your team (number of people in team, team name etc). What is your project? What are you aiming to do? What building have you chosen to examine and why?
The overall report should be succinct (ie cover your main points in as concise a manner as possible NO WAFFLING!)
INVESTIGATIONWhat kind of investigations did you carry out? Did you find some plans of the building or some information about the building on the Internet? Did you ask someone whod been involved in the buildings design/construction? Did you go into the building? Did you take photos and/or measurements? Did you look at what the material properties are like (e.g. tensile and compressive capabilities etc)? Did you look at other real and/or spaghetti bridge project designs? Did you think about engineering statics in your design (supports, reactions, tension, compression, bearing, buckling etc)
MATERIALS CHOSEN FOR STUDY
Which three types of material are you examining further? How has each material been used in the building (e.g. as part of supporting structure or faade or internal fit-out)?
MATERIAL ONE
Description of material one. How has it been used and where? What are typical properties of this material (e.g. is it good in tension/compression/bending? Durable? Stiff? Flexible?) Given these properties, has the material been used well/appropriately in your chosen building? Why do you think the designers chose the material for this purpose?Do you think the designers could have made a better choice? Is the material use environmentally responsible? Why? What about fire / other considerations? Are there any obvious defects/failures of the material? Use photographs/sketches to explain your points
MATERIAL TWO
Description of material two.
MATERIAL THREE
Description of material three.
CONCULSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONSSummarise your investigation. Could you have made better selections of materials for the building or do you think the design team got it right? If you found any defects, what do you think the building managers should do to rectify them or how could they have been avoided? Do you think other factors controlled the selection of the materials other than structural/aesthetic reasons (e.g. cost/availability/timeframes)? What have you learned about materials selection for construction projects?
REFERENCESInclude any reference books/websites used. Make sure you understand the University policy on plagiarism! If I find any plagiarism in your report, you will at the very least lose marks and the worst cases will result in a FAIL (0 marks).
You are allowed to use any external sources as long as you acknowledge them properly in your report
APPENDIX AYou can use the appendix to include any detailed info/building plans/additional photographs etc if you wish or other further material that is not essential to the main body of your report.
Group Charter template
Assignment Group Charter
Many groups suffer through poor communication and understanding between members. Some simple groundrules can help to overcome this. These rules are commonly referred to as the group codes of conduct, which group members must abide by.
To help you establish these groundrules, I suggest you discuss the following questions as a group. The Group as a whole must then decide the appropriate answers to the questions and record them on this sheet. Feel free to add/alter/change the questions your group must answer. Each group member must sign the Group Charter and the Group should submit it with the report and keep a copy for your records.
Group Name:
Name, Student ID and Contact Details of each group member:
First name Family name Student ID Contact Details
The following tasks are allocated to each group member in rotation. Name the Group member:
Group spokesperson - responsible for facilitating group meetings, representing the group in communications & helping group members as required
Group secretary responsible for taking & posting group meeting action statements, monitoring members progress in completing tasks & help members to keep on track
Group editor responsible for compiling the work of all into draft submissions, editing submissions when necessary, circulating draft submissions & compiling the final submission into a coherent document for all members to review
What is our group trying to accomplish & what grade do we require?
What is the preferred method of communication throughout the Semester?
Where, when, how often & for how long will we meet?
When is it OK to miss a meeting & how do we tell each other we will be late or cannot attend a meeting?
What happens if a group member misses 2 or more meeting?
What will we do if a group member does not do their fair share of the work?
What will we do if a members work does not meet our required standards?
If there is disagreement in the group about anything, how will it be resolved?
What is the basis for a member be asked to leave the group?
Our commitment to the Charter
We, the undersigned Group team members, agree to abide by the above Group Charter:
