introductionDocument management is an integral part of running a business. In higher education, document management is required for developing, implementing and improving policies, procedures and subject documentation, and student records. Consequences of poor document management in the context of higher education institutions can include failure to update versions of documents, loss of important information, such as information relating to student enrolments and learning outcomes, or misplaced or out of date policies. In particular, the Teaching and Learning Committee is responsible for making changes to policies, procedures and subject documentation in higher education institutions. The aim of this report is to identify and evaluate the established document naming conventions at the Adelaide Institute of Higher Education (AIHE) and to make recommendations for improvements to these conventions.
Background
The role of the Teaching and Learning Committee is to take meeting minutes, and to make changes to existing documents. AIHE is a new higher education institution that provides Bachelor and Master level degrees. As a young institute that is registered with Australias Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), AIHE does not yet have established document management practices in place. The scope of this report is limited to the document management practices of AIHEs Teaching and Learning Committee, as it is central to subject development, which is an important part of the institute.
Objective
The objectives of the report are:
To develop an understanding of AIHEs requirements for document management in regards to the Teaching and Learning Committee
To make recommendations for document numbering and naming that will enable AIHE to accurately manage Teaching and Learning Committee file processing
