In the first paragraph, provide a broad introduction to the topic and the broad aim of the research study.
In the body paragraphs (2-3 paragraphs), critically evaluate the literature relevant to your research, draw conclusions and develop your theoretical hypothesis. You should present the reader with a summary of the current state of knowledge on this topic and an argument for why this research is needed.
TIPS: Have your hypothesis in front of you (write it on a sticky note and stick it on the computer screen). As you write each paragraph ask yourself whether the information youve written is relevant to the argument youre making to lead to your hypothesis if it isnt, no matter how interesting the bit of information is delete it.
Be honest, if there is evidence both for and against your hypothesis then present both sides it is your job to convince the reader why youve given more weight to one side of the argument than the other.
