CHAPTER ONE INCLUDE INTRO? OR IDENTIIFED AS A SEPARATE SECTION? (You decide)

Sets the scene for the dissertation. Why is the student writing about this topic/subject? Why now? Why is it pertinent relevant in H/S Care today?

Identifies the question clearly (encourage students to ask question)

Offers analytical definitions of terms/topics being discussedOffers statistics around chosen area, which support both rationale for question, but also rationale for further investigation and analysis to be carried out.

Offers discussion around relevant legislation/Policy? What does this say now? How has his developed? Recent/proposed changes? (students often prefer to cover some of this in more detail later in dissertation)

As the chapter concludes, identify themes for analysis, which answer the dissertation question, which are then discussed and analysed in chapter 2. What did the student actually find in terms of research/evidence to answer the question they are asking?

Where has the topic been discussed before? What is the issue of the gap, what has been missed?

Issues around discrimination/oppression start to raise here, to be developed/built upon in chapter 2CHAPTER TWO

Discuss and analyse chosen themes which were identified at end of chapter one, which are addressing the research question.

How do these themes link to the gap in research/policy ?May use separate sub-headings for each theme?

Cover implications for practice within each themeIf using theories, not too descriptive; analyse, relate to topic specifically, more detail and description around theories may want to be in an appendix?

Continue thread/analysis around discrimination/oppressionCHAPTER THREE INCLUDE CONCLUSION? OR SEPARATE SECTION?

So how do your themes look in practice today?

How do these themes connect?

How are practice areas dealing/responding to this?

Current issues?

Are there any examples either locally or nationally, of good practice, or practice that highlights some of the points you are making? What about internationally?

Are there any legislative/policy changes taking place around your subject area?

What recommendations/ideas do you have as to how things could progress/change? To include both practical, theoretical, organisational and legislative.
