3. Company Background

Haidilao International Holdings Limited, formerly known as "Seed on Earth," was established on March 20 1994, by its creator Zhang Yong as a small eatery selling spicily prepared hot pot. Since then, it has developed into a huge, directly-managed company that mostly provides Sichuan-style hot pots while adding flavours from other hot pot regions. The term "Haidilao" originates from the Sichuan Mahjong terminology. Haidilao opened its first Malaysian branch at Sunway Pyramid shopping centre in 2019 and now has 15 branches in Malaysia. Each of their branches provides each table with a tablet equipped with the Point-of-Sales (POS) system to facilitate customers' ordering. Customers can either request the waiter to order, or order themselves using the tablet.

Haidilao is well-known for its impeccable service, which includes services like free manicures, snacks, and beverages so that customers can enjoy their hot pot meal with all their heart. They perform face-changing shows, provide aprons and hairbands for customers, and serve fruit trays before customers even order. The hotpot soup base used by Haidilao also differs from the typical Malaysian hotpot soup base. It uses Chinese flavours instead such as spicy (Mala) soup base and tomato soup base. However, Haidilao Malaysia has also developed the unique Malaysian flavours of laksa soup, curry soup, and tomyam soup.

Haidilao also provides many dishes for customers to choose from, including chicken, pork, beef and mutton, seafood, river food, balls and sliders, vegetables, soya and noodle products, mushrooms, beverages and main dishes. They also offer a wide array of sauces for customers to mix and match on their own, allowing customers to choose their favourite seasoning as a dipping sauce for the hot pot. After the customers enjoy the hot pot, the waiter serves free desserts for the customers. Since this superior service is different from the past and other restaurants, Haidilao has attracted a staggering volume of clients in Malaysia.
