Unit 2: Assess occupational competence in the work environment

Be able to plan the assessment of occupational assessment.
1.1 Plan assessment of occupational competence base on the following methods:
- observation of performance in the work environment
- examining products of work
- questioning the learner
- discussing with the learner
- use of others (witness testimony)
- looking at learner statements
- recognising prior learning
2 of any of the above for each learner (4 in total)
1.2 Communicate the purpose, requirements and processes of assessing occupational competence to the learner.
2 emails to each learner (4 in total) stating the purpose, process, time and place of the assessment activity.
1.3 Plan the assessment of occupational competence to address learner needs and current achievements.
1 initial and diagnostic assessment form for each learner (see template on page 55) and 1 assessment plan form for each learner (see template on page 60 (4 in total).
1.4 Identify opportunities for holistic assessment.
Cross reference to response in Unit 1 3.3. Highlight and explain below 1 assessment report for each learner (2 in total) how you were able to give credit to them for multiple areas of the assessment criteria during 1 assessment activity.

Be able to make assessment decisions about occupational competence.
2.1 Use valid, fair and reliable assessment methods including:
- observation of performance in the work environment
- examining products of work
- questioning the learner
- discussing with the learner
- use of others (witness testimony)
- looking at learner statements
- recognising prior learning
Chose two different assessment methods from what you chose for each learner in 1.1 above. Insert 4 documents in total.
2.2 Make assessment decisions of occupational competence against specified criteria.
Complete 2 progress and feedback forms for each learner (4 in total). Assign them a mark for each assignment or activity (pass, not completed, etc.). Include details of the specified criteria you were marking them on.
2.3 Follow standardisation procedures.
Print a copy of your organisations standardisation procedures. Provide a log of standardisation events you attended. Write up what points were made in one of the meetings.
2.4 Provide feedback to the learner that affirms achievement and identifies any further implications for learning, assessment and progression.
Complete 1 progress and feedback form for each learner (2 in total). Assign them a mark for each assignment (pass, not completed, etc.). Write 1 action plan for each learner (2 in total) identifying their strengths, progress, and steps needed for them to reach the next level.

Be able to provide required information following the assessment of occupational competence.
3.1 Maintain records of the assessment of occupational competence, its outcomes and learner progress.
2 written assignments for each learner (4 in total). The assignment could be about how the learner would deal with a typical workplace scenario. Write a question for them, have them answer it and provide feedback on the same page.
3.2 Make assessment information available to authorised colleagues as required.
Cross reference to answer from Unit 1 7.1. Print out the assessment criteria for the assessments you conducted.
3.3 Follow procedures to maintain the confidentiality of assessment information.
Cross reference to answer from Unit 1 8.1. Print out confidentiality of assessment procedures from your organisation.
4. Be able to maintain legal and good practice requirements when assessing occupational competence.
4.1 Follow relevant policies, procedures and legislation for the assessment of occupational competence, including those for health, safety and wlefare.
Cross reference to answer from Unit 1 8.1. Print out health and safety and data protection procedures relating to assessment in your organisation.
4.2 Apply requirements for equality and diversity and, where appropriate, bilingualism.
Cross reference to answer from Unit 1 8.2. Print out equality and diversity procedures relating to assessment from your organisation. Show what procedures your organisation might have to make adjustments to support speakers of other languages during assessment.
4.3 Evaluate own work in carrying out assessments of occupational competence.
Complete 1 self-evaluation for each assessment activity (4 in total).
4.4 Maintain the currency of own expertise and competence as relevant to own role in assessing occupational competence.
