The case study describes a patient in a hospital setting that you may encounter in practice.

Identify your chosen nursing theory and introduce what you will be discussing in the body of the assignment. Tell the reader what the assessment is about. Do not use references in the introduction.

Body (approximate total 500 words)

Provide a brief overview of you chosen nursing theory and how it can be applied to the case study, using examples. Include a minimum of three (3) peer reviewed reference sources to support your discussion.

Conclusion (approximately 100 words)

This is a summary and includes the main points from the discussion. Do not include any new work or references in the conclusion.

Write this section in third person for example The nurse . Do not use I, we etc.

Part B.

Short Reflection (300 words +/- 10%)

Reflect on why you have chosen the nursing theory that you believe best fits the case study using the first three (3) stages of Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988):

Stage 2 what are your thoughts and feelings of why you chose this theory to describe nursing care of Mrs Parkes

Case study Sally Parkes is a 40-year-old woman who has been hospitalized following a car accident where she sustained a fractured right clavicle and humerus. She was the driver of a car that was hit at an intersection. Her 2-year-old son Henry was also in the car at the time, and sustained bruising and a head laceration. He was also hospitalized at the time for monitoring but is ready for discharge now.

Sally is married to Ken, who works as a builder in the next suburb, and they also have a 6-year-old girl Molly, who has just started school this year. Sally works part time as an accountant.

Sally has a lot of pain and discomfort and needs assistance with her Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as toileting, showering and dressing. She also needs food to be cut up and everything to be within reach. Her children cannot understand why their Mum is not at home, and why she cannot pick them up and cuddle them. Molly is quite reserved and fearful, and Henry is clingy and wanting Mums attention. Ken if finding it very difficult to juggle work, children, and hospital visits.

Sally will be in hospital for another 3 days at least, but the nursing staff are working toward her discharge, and trying to get things in place to make it easier for her. She needs education around how to manage her pain, her ADLs at home and follow up appointments such as attending the fracture clinic, GP, and rehabilitation with the physiotherapist.
