Assessment 2: Personal Positioning Plan (35%)

(Due Sunday 15th September)

On 15 March 2019 a terrorist entered two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, shooting and killing 51 people. One of the collective responses to the attacks was the publication of the book edited by Elvy et al. (2020) Ko Aotearoa ttou: We are New Zealand. This book is a mix of poems, visual art works, fiction and non-fiction texts. Our task in this assignment is to show understanding of the movement from diversity to inclusion in organisations.

This book is held on reserve at the Albany Campus Library.

There are three elements to this assignment.

1. Write (or make) a creative piece which explores your identity. By using Ko Aotearoa ttou as exemplary, this could be a poem, painting, sketch, or short story.

2. Discuss one of the 96 pieces in Ko Aotearoa ttou summarising its meaning in relation to moving from diversity to inclusion.

3. Write a brief literature review exploring what organisational scholars have written regarding moving from diversity to inclusion.

Your assignment will be in three parts:

1. Creative piece of any length or design which explores your identity.

2. A discussion of one piece from the Ko Aotearoa ttou anthology. You are free to choose any one and your summary should be around 250 to 300 words. Show how the author explores diversity and inclusion. This section will be in two parts: 1. Describe the form of the chosen piece; and 2. Discuss the meaning of the work.

Make certain you cite and reference the work you choose as a chapter in an edited book, according to APA 7 conventions.

3. An exploration of the organisational scholarly literature on moving from diversity to inclusion. Elements that you can explore could include:

how diversity and inclusion are defined;

the problems encountered in moving towards inclusion;

the issues that managers encounter when undertaking the diversity to inclusion journey. These are suggestions and not an exhaustive list. You are free to discover other elements. Your discussion should be around 650 to 700 words (not including references).

4. A concluding section of about 100 words which link the three parts together: your poem, discussion from the Ko Aotearoa ttou anthology, and the literature review.

Use as resources the video discussion by Glenn Colquhoun (available on the Stream site), the lecture by Nathan Garton, and the discussions with Albany Senior High School students, showing how they have inspired your explorations. You need to show in this section how you understand these three elements.

You can format your assignment with four headings:

1. Creative piece

2. Ko Aotearoa ttou

3. Diversity to Inclusion

4. Linkages

Please note that within the second, third and fourth parts you will have multiple paragraphs depending on what and how you explore the topic.
