The assessment tasks for HLTWHS004 Manage work health and safety are outlined in the assessment plan below. These tasks have been designed to help you demonstrate the skills and knowledge that you have learnt during your course.
Please ensure that you read the instructions provided with these tasks carefully. You should also follow the advice provided in the Student User Guide. The Student Guide provides important information for you relating to completing assessment successfully.
Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.
There must be demonstrated evidence that the candidate has completed the following tasks at least once in line with state/territory WHS regulations, relevant codes of practice and workplace procedures:
conducted a workplace risk assessment and recorded the results, including:
identification of hazards and potential hazards
risk assessment
evaluation of policy/procedure in line with state/territory legislation and industry guidelines
development of risk controls and measures
conducted the following consultative activities with at least two workers:
information session about workplace policies and procedures, including demonstration of personal protective equipment (PPE) where required for the job role
consultative discussion regarding outcomes of a workplace risk assessment, including risk controls and measures developed as part of the risk assessment process
monitored workplace compliance with WHS procedures
developed a WHS action plan, including strategies for monitoring and review
coordinated workplace procedures for a simulated emergency situation.

Assessment Conditions
Skills must be demonstrated in the workplace.
In addition, simulations and scenarios must be used where the full range of contexts and situations cannot be provided in the workplace or may occur only rarely. These are situations relating to emergency or unplanned procedures where assessment in these circumstances would be unsafe or is impractical.
Simulated assessment environments must simulate the real-life working environment where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.
In addition, assessment must ensure use of:
current workplace policies and procedures for WHS
Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.

Assessment details
There are three assessment tasks/methods of evidence gathering. You are required to complete them all. Your trainer /assessor will advise when assessments are due.
You may use various sources of learning materials including text books, student guide, other documents and the internet. For you to be assessed as competent, you must successfully complete the following assessment tasks:
Assessment Task 1: Knowledge questions You must answer all questions correctly.
Assessment Task 2: Portfolio You must complete your portfolio document to demonstrate that you have developed WHS policies and procedures, completed a hazard inspection and risk assessment and consulted with staff. You will also need to show that you have monitored your workplaces compliance with WHS policies procedures.
Assessment Task 3: Observation You must deliver an information session to a small group of people. The information session must address work health and safety procedures related to your work placement organisation and must also include a demonstration of correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) used on the job. You will also need to coordinate procedures to effectively handle a simulated emergency situation.

Assessment Task 1: Knowledge questions
Task Summary
This is an open book test you can use a various learning resources including online materials, student guide and other reference resources available at the TasCollege to complete your task if required.
You must answer all the 24 questions correctly and sufficiently.
You must complete and submit an Assessment Cover Sheet with your assessment submission.
Write your answers in the space provided or you need to type and print a hard copy to submit (as per your trainer /assessor advice).
The assessment task is due on the date specified by your trainer/assessor.
Any variations to this arrangement must be approved in writing by your trainer/assessor.

Work placement information
Work placement provides you with an opportunity to learn and be assessed in a hands-on, real-life industry environment. Learning in the classroom is important, and you will engage in lots of classroom discussion, practice and be involved in demonstrations and simulations before you are ready for your work placement but gaining practical experience during your work placement hours provides you with the opportunity to put your new-found knowledge into practice and provides you with an appropriate environment to be assessed in.
It also provides you with opportunities to observe qualified and experienced community services workers and allows you to learn while under the close supervision and guidance of a workplace supervisor and mentor.
You will not be paid for your work placement as it forms part of your training and assessment for this qualification.
Responsibilities
You are always expected to comply with all of your work placements policies and procedures for their staff members and follow your supervisors instructions. You will receive the required information about working hours, dress requirements and specific guidelines from your work placement before you begin and will sign a work placement agreement prior to starting.
If youre unsure of anything then speak to your trainer/assessor and ask questions when the placement arrangements are being made. You may undertake more than one placement at a different facility this will all be arranged with your trainer/assessor and made clear to you during this time.
Your work placement supervisor will arrange an induction for you where the expectations will be outlined and the limitations of what you are able to do while you are at your work placement.
