Instructions

Each student will research and prepare a presentation as though they are presenting a professional workshop for colleagues.

The assignment will have 3 parts:

Research current and reputable research will be consulted to find information about the topic, students will use a minimum of three articles from the library data base, at least two online resources from academic sources, and texts.

Presentation your research should be presented as a slide presentation.A reference list of resources is required, as well as a list of free domain photographic images used, and signed LC permission slips if using your own photographs.

In addition to visual representation, you are required to use a voice component to guide your classmates and instructor through the presentationas if you were presenting at a professional workshop for colleagues, to be spoken using a natural voice rather than read.

You may choose your presentation format as long as it meets the assignment criteria and your classmates and instructor are able to view without downloading any additional software.

Because this presentation is online, you are encouraged to use a format that is most suitable for the online learner. If you do not have access to PowerPoint or have difficulties uploading large files, some other alternatives are Slide Rocket or Prezi. Both of these applications allow you to create and store your presentation online for free. When you are finished, you simply share the URL with those you want to view your work. In this case, you would post the URL to your presentation on the discussion board on the following page, and also, to the assignment #3 Drop Box. Remember a picture says a thousand words; Use point form for the highlights, with actual photos rather than writing a lengthy essay, and fill in vocally. Let those creative juices flow and give us something that we will remember!

Both the Prezi (http://prezi.comLinks to an external site.) and Slide Rocket (http://www.sliderocket.comLinks to an external site.) websites have examples of other great presentations if you need a little inspiration. They also have fantastic tutorials to help guide you through the process.

Handout a downloadable handout (either Word, RTF, or PDF) must be provided with your presentation. This handout should contain quality material which reflects ECE philosophy. It must acknowledge all references using APA format and adhere to copyright laws. The handout must not exceed three (3) pages in length and resemble the type of handout you would receive at an ECE conference, with photographs, names and addresses of community organizations, and other current information about your topic.

Topic and Explanation

Play Based Preschool ProgramsThe parents in your program have been asking questions about why their children have such long periods of play time. They want to know how play based programming will support their childrens development and prepare them for Kindergarten and Elementary School.

Prepare a presentation for a parent evening in which you will examine play based programming in depth and explain the philosophy and the practices of this approach.
