PART A
Requirements:
A financial institution based in Barbados (Barbados Fin-Trade Corp that engages in trade finance requires a corresponding bank in North America to make international payments to carry out international transactions. Specifically, they want the bank to be able to confirm its letter of credit and bills of exchange. As an expert in banking and finance, you have been tasked to assess the three North American Bank (BMO Bank of Montreal, Wells Fargo & Co, Santander SA, and Toronto Dominion Bank) and recommend which one should be the first choice for Barbados Fin-Trade Corp to correspond with.
An overall assessment is required based on the analysis of the following:
a)Net Stable Funding b)Capital Adequacy c)Leverage Your report should adopt the following structure and provide the following: I.SummaryThe summary should include a brief overview of the state of the banking industry, an outline of the work, and the main highlights of your analysis. (8 marks)
II.Fundamental Analysis
You should calculate the ratios (covering a five year period) mentioned below and provide a comprehensive analysis of the current state and changes in the ratios
a)Net Stable Funding Ratio (12 marks) b)Capital Adequacy ratio (12 marks) c)Leverage ratio (10 marks)
III.Conclusion
You should summarise your findings, highlight their significance for the future of the bank, and discuss the shortcomings of your analysis. Use Orbis Global database to download the data needed to calculate the ratios for the three banks. A 5-year historical performance is adequate for assessing the performances of the banks. It is expected that the assessment is well structured and adequately discussed by comparing ratios and other variables. Using graphs and tables will enhance your evaluation and presentation and will help reduce your word count. You must present constructed and substantiated arguments explaining and synthesising complex information to put together an independent and appropriate analysis with well-developed reasoned judgment. You are being assessed on your understanding of the material delivered in the module more credit will be given for applying concepts and principles covered in the classroom. You must answer two of three questions:
Question 1In addition to trade finance, Barbados Fin-Trade Corp also engages in loan sales and securitization. Describe the concept of asset securitization and discuss its effectiveness as a tool for risk management. (25 marks) Question 2Following the financial crisis of 2008, the Bank of International Settlement developed a set of rules generally known as Basel III. These rules aim to strengthen the regulation, supervision and risk management of banks. The term stress tests is commonly associated with Basel III. Explain this concept and evaluate the effectiveness of stress test scenarios in relation to the spirit of Basel-III regulations. (25 marks)
Question 3A competitor of Barbados Fin-Trade Corp has recently been fined for financial crimes relating to money laundering and the company is concerned about its compliance with International Anti-Money Laundering Laws. As an expert consultant in the field, discuss the concepts of money laundering and evaluate the robustness of the current legal and regulatory framework for money laundering. (25 marks)

Your assessment should be completed within a minimum of 2500 words and a maximum of 3000 words. Tables, graphs, a content page, and a reference list are not included in the word count. There will be no direct penalty, but assessment marking will end at the stated wordcount. You should base your response mainly on the material delivered in the module for which some reference to the underlying literature is required. Where you believe a relevant source adds value to your arguments, ensure that the source is cited appropriately. Reassessment

If you fail your assessment, and are eligible for reassessment, you will be able to find the date for resubmission on your module site in Blackboard.
