Intro: Nick
Introduction (1 min)
Introduce each group member. Hi were bla bla, today we will be comparing the csr report of these three companies, bhp, rio, fortescue.
State your topic & companies that you have selected - As mining companies are often known to be unethical for the environment. This presentation will assess the CSR Reporting of the three biggest mining companies in Australia blah blah.
Mining companies will definitely do harm to the environment. however, there are sustainable things that need to be produced from mining companies to be sustainable (if u get what i mean). Thus looking at the CSR of large mining companies will give us more of an insight of whether or not they at least trying to be responsible to compensate for the harm that they do.

Please use some of the point from our meetings: Some also from chat gptSustainability or CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) reporting involves companies and organisations demonstrating their corporate responsibility through measuring and publicly reporting on their economic, social and environmental performance and impacts. It can be delivered through the company's annual report, a stand-alone sustainability report, a triple bottom line report or an environmental or social impact report. Students are to select THREE companies (Two companies if you are doing the assignment by yourself) from the Top 200 companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. (Please note, if you selected the companies in another unit or previous semesters, you cannot select those companies again. You have to select different companies for SEM 1, 2024, ACCT3009). Students should review the most recent annual reports along with the disclosure on the company website and any supplementary reports, including reliably sourced information in the media and rank the companies in terms of their sustainability (CSR) reporting. Students should also make a decision as to which company has demonstrated the better CSR reporting of its activities, based on the disclosures and fully justify the decision with examples and comparisons. Students should consider what constitutes Good CSR reporting and whether the companies have disclosed enough information (Voluntary and Mandatory information) to allow them to be compared and ranked. In addition, students should consider the company size, political visibility, and image of the company and how this may influence CSR related disclosures.
The sdgs is to research about the companies but when were comparing/ benchmarking, we shld include like their size as well, like rio tinto is smaller so it doesnt neccesary need to reduce as much footprint as bhp
SDG 10: Reduced Inequality within Companies
This goal aims to address inequalities in income, access to services, and opportunities, as well as tackle discriminatory policies and practices. For mining companies, this means actively working to reduce income disparities, promote diversity, protect women in engineering, and eliminate discrimination within the workplace.
SDG 13: Climate Action As a mining company, it is always important to look at their footprint and their impact on climate change. Through SDG 13, mining companies should adopt sustainable practices, invest in clean technologies, and prioritise environmental stewardship.
SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions This goal promotes peaceful and inclusive societies, justice for all, and effective, accountable institutions. This means addressing issues such as land rights, particularly those involving Indigenous and Aboriginal communities. Mining firms must operate responsibly, respecting the rights and traditions of local communities, and maintaining transparent and accountable practices. Companies that prioritise these principles will stand out as leaders in responsible mining.
