Stent grafts for coronary arteries were first used in the mid 1980's. I want you to review the developments in stent graft technology since that time and discuss the natural response of the body to angioplasty and stent placement and how biomedical engineers have responded to the adverse events encountered along the way. Discuss how physicians try to prevent adverse events from occurring both during the procedure, in the early period following placement and during later time-frames (say 6 months to 1 year) following placement. Discuss the biologic mechanisms which cause these adverse events to occur and the corresponding treatments which try to prevent them.
