Design and Simulation of Noise Filter
- Subject Code :
BMS2160
General Description
Design and simulate a first order filter using Multisim to reduce the 50 Hz noise component present
in a provided ECG signal. Decide on a suitable corner frequency and evaluate the component values
using only available capacitors and resistors (see appendix). What is the actual corner frequency?
Simulate this using Simulink by defining the transfer function and generating the output of the filtered
signal. Carry out an FFT spectrum on both the original and filtered signals and discuss the
differences and what would improve the outcome.
Present your findings as a short report explaining the operation of the filter and some explanation of
FFT. An indicative report length is no more than 1000 words but will contain many diagrams.
