GENERAL ITEMS

WHS

Please note that assessment tasks reference WHS (Work Health and Safety). At the time of writing, Victoria is still using the term OHS. It is expected that students refer to their states related laws when answering questions.

Workers/Employees

Please note that under the WHS Act 2011, an employee is known as a 'worker'.

Employers/PCBUs

Please note that under the WHS Act 2011, an employer is known as a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking ('PCBU').

Level of Performance Expected in Assessment Tasks

This is a Cert IV course and the standard of performance expected is high. We expect that you are able to explain, describe and articulate your response to each assessment task using three to four sentences maximum (approximately 100 words). We do not accept dot pointed answers unless the question asks you to list.
You will not qualify for your Certificate IV WHS until all assessment tasks are completed and you have been deemed competent in all of them.

Self-Paced Training Days

If you feel that after the 5 days of face-to-face training that you would benefit from additional training days, CBD College offers Self-Paced Training Days days throughout the year. No appointment is necessary, and these days run according to the schedule that can be seen in your Student Portal. These days are designed for you to master your learning in any area that you feel you need more training in. These self-paced training days will give you an opportunity to work one-on-one with a WHS trainer and assessor and to come together with WHS students from other cohorts. Assessment questions can also be clarified during these days.

Due Date

The due date is no later than 12 months from the first day of the face-to-face component of your WHS course with CBD College.

MARKING OF ASSESSMENTS

Requirements for Competency

Assessment tasks will be marked by a qualified assessor. We will endeavour to mark your assessment within 15 business days of submission. To be deemed competent, you will need to have provided evidence that shows competency against all aspects of each unit of competency in the qualification.

Assessment Outcomes

Once marked, CBD College will send you a checklist where you will see your assessors assessment decision of S (Satisfactory) or NYS (Not Yet Satisfactory) marked against each part of your assessment tasks. If you are deemed NYS in any part of the assessment tasks, then the outcome on your checklist will be further evidence required and you will be advised what evidence remains to be submitted. You will be given an opportunity to resubmit your answer for reassessment. You will be issued with your Certificate IV in WHS only after all assessment tasks are deemed S (satisfactory).

Resubmissions

You may be required to re-submit assessment tasks and will be notified in writing via email if this is the case. You will have 2 weeks to then resubmit any assessment tasks initially deemed NYS. After the initial assessment, CBD College will allow a further two resubmissions before a $199 fee will be charged each time a student wishes to be given a further chance to resubmit their work.

Candidates who submit assessment tasks after this period will be deemed not competent unless there is a special need that CBD College are made aware of during this period.

Literacy and numeracy

Candidates will need to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction for referencing legislation, preparing reports, completing assessments, and searching the internet.

Please discuss any language, literacy, or numeracy issues with us prior to attending. This will enable the instructor to organise appropriate support facilities, for example we can arrange to conduct assessments orally rather than in the written form, or extra tuition, as appropriate.

Health Issues

Please discuss any health issues which may affect your training and assessment with the instructor prior to attending.

Access and Equity

We do not discriminate against any individual based on race, colour, sex, or religion. All students are treated equally. Our instructors will assist and support students where appropriate, especially those students with language, literacy or physical disabilities as long as the nature of the disability does not preclude them from completing the training and assessment. We do not tolerate discriminatory behaviour from students in any of our classes.

Complaints and Appeals procedure

CBD College undertakes to deal with complaints and appeals promptly. There are several stages involved in resolving complaints and appeals these are outlined in the Student Handbook.

Feedback

Written feedback will be provided as assessment tasks are returned to you after marking. Your trainer is always available to provide verbal feedback during class time.

Plagiarism and misuse of AI by students

Plagiarism is using the words or ideas of others and presenting them as your own. Plagiarism is a type of intellectual theft.

CBD College uses Turnitin software that can easily detect plagiarism from other students work and from the internet, including from AI text generation tools (AI).

Plagiarism in any form is not tolerated at CBD College and evidence of it may result in a student being withdrawn from their qualification. If a student is withdrawn from their qualification due to plagiarism, they will not be offered a refund of course fees.

For cases where misuse of AI has been detected, students will be required to pay a $199 fee for their work to be investigated and they will be required to resubmit their assessments.

What is AI cheating?

AI cheating is the use of AI technologies to dishonestly gain an advantage when completing your assessments. It involves asking the AI tool to complete part of or all of your assessment questions and then pretending that you completed the work yourself. AI cheating is a violation of academic integrity as it involves presenting AI-generated work as your own. This poses significant challenges to educational institutions, such as CBD College, who are aiming to uphold fair and honest academic practices.

Is the use of AI cheating?

The use of AI itself is not cheating. AI has many legitimate and beneficial uses in education. However, the misuse of AI to dishonestly complete your assessments is considered cheating.

What happens if I use AI to complete my assessments?

CBD College uses a detection tool, Turnitin, to identify the misuse of AI. For cases where the misuse of AI has been detected, students will be required to pay a $199 fee for their work to be investigated and they will be required to resubmit their assessments.

Continuous Improvement

You will be asked to complete a Training Evaluation Survey at the end of the face-to-face component of your course. We encourage constructive and honest feedback. This feedback can be anonymous. CBD College warrants that the content of this survey will have absolutely no bearing on the marking of your assessment. You are given another opportunity to give feedback after gaining your qualification.
