Overview

You will Analyse the investor data of the XYZ Investment advisors, Assume this is an international company that makes investments on behalf of its customers. The lecturer roughly based the data on real world data. Investor data will give you the skills to analyse real data

After paraphrasing some relevant literature or webpage, perform a suitable analysis on the investor data Your analysis should include a suitable hypothesis test to investigate the relationship between 2 relevant variables.

Report Structure

The suggested report structure is as follows:

Section 1: Introduction

Give an introduction to the entire report

Section 2: Reviewing academic source(s) or website(s) relevant to investors

Find at least one journal article or website related to investors and give a brief discussion of the article

Section 3: A simple Bivariate analysis of the investor data and Hypothesis test

Using theInvestor data

  • Include at least ONE bivariate analysis that shows the relationship between two variables you discussed in Section 2. You will need to explain if the Bivariate analysis does or does not support the claim made in section 2.
  • You will need to use excel to do this, you must also use a filter to select a sample based on your student number, if you are not sure how to do this refer to the following guide
  • You will also need to perform at least ONE hypothesis test related to a bivariate analysis
  • Make sure you comment on your analysis and do NOT leave out the sample size. Note that you only have to do ONE bivariate analysis based on a pair of variables and there are 3 possible options

Option 1:You have picked two categorical variables

  • Give a two-way table, also give a chart that compares the proportions of the different groups.
  • Perform the chi square test of independence

Option 2:You have picked one categorical and one numerical variable

  • Give a table that compares the means and standard deviations of each group. Also, give a chart that shows the distribution of each variable.
  • Perform the two sample t test, If there are more than 2 categories just use the two most common categories.

Option 3:You have picked two numerical variables

  • Give a scatterplot that shows the relationship between both variables. Also, find the mean and standard deviation for each of the variables.
  • For the Hypothesis Test that the slope is different to 0 (or test if the correlation is 0, that will give EXACTLY the same p-value), If you are not sure how to do this you are allowed to replace one or both of your variables with a categorical variable and then do a suitable hypothesis test

Section 4: Investigate the variable return per $1000

You need to

  • Find a 95% confidence interval for annual return on investment per $1000 .
  • Test the claim the average annual return on investment per $1000 is above $30, suppose $30 .

Section 5: Prepare basic advice for people for new employees at the XYZ company based on the previous findings, if this is too difficult give a general discussion about the issues with using samples.

Section 6: Give a conclusion of the previous sections. Propose some new research or further analysis based on the previous discussion.
