Task Description

This task requires you to prepare a business research proposal analysing how you would conduct your research project and seek to answer your research questions/hypotheses/propositions.

You are not implementing your research project (there is no need to collect or analyse primary data or present findings). Still, you must prepare your proposal in an appropriate format that could be submitted to senior management or a research committee for consideration for funding and approval to proceed.

A good hint is to write the research proposal so that other researchers could use the plan to conduct their research.

Assessment Format:

This assessment must be submitted as a proposal, including:

  • Executive summary (no more than 250-300 words)
  • Table of contents
  • Introduction/business research problem (context)
  • Literature review summary (concisely summarise the review from Assessment Task 1)
  • Research philosophy and identified approach (e.g. action research, case study grounded theory)

This section also includes a research process model and other relevant research design models and frameworks.

  • Methodology
    • Proposed research design - (Qualitative, Quantitative or Mixed Methods)
    • Sampling approach
    • Data collection techniques
    • Data analysis
  • Ethical considerations
  • Timetable for implementation, (including a Gantt Chart)
  • Limitations/barriers
  • Future research
  • Conclusion
  • References
  • Appendices (if required)

Your report should be no more than 3,500 +/- 10% words in length. Marks will be deducted at the rate of 1 mark for every 10% over the word limit. The following are excluded from your word count:

  • Executive summary
  • Table of contents
  • Graphs and tables
  • References
  • Appendices.

Finally, you are expected to use credible, relevant and current academic sources (including peer-reviewed journals, prescribed and other textbooks and, grey literature sources (including relevant industry and government publications). Therefore, use online sources (e.g. newspaper articles and blogs) sparingly.

Your report should be submitted in Word format. Do not submit your report as a PDF file.
