Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to further develop your capacity to identify in the case provided issues that require attention to ensure effective team management and functioning.

By working in a group, you will develop your team working skills, including virtual team working. You will learn how to link member profiles to task allocation and develop general team functioning knowledge and skills.

Assessment Details

Component 1 – PowerPoint presentation

Working as a group, you are to develop a pre-recorded oral presentation (maximum 10 minutes), using audio on PowerPoint slides with all team members presenting.

You are required to produce a set of slides (maximum 10)

1. Setting out 3-4 recommendations for improving performance relevant to a case study provided to deliver successful projects.
2. Outlining an implementation plan to bring about those improvements which considers the inter-relationship between the individual project team member, the project team, and the organisation.
3. Your presentation is to be for a maximum of 10 minutes.
4. It should use language appropriate for your audience – the organisation’s leadership team.

To achieve this goal, you are to use a minimum of 10 references to support your recommendations, at least six (6) of which should be peer-reviewed articles. You are expected to conduct research to complete this assessment item. Your recommendations are to be based on peer-reviewed literature that you have sourced using the university library. The library system clearly indicates which items are peer-reviewed. All references should be recent (published since 2019). You are not permitted to use general websites for information. This means that no blogs, Wikipedia, anecdotal or opinion based references should be used. Only websites that originate from trusted sources should be used. In addition to the peer reviewed articles (minimum six required), suitable sources include course readings provided, peak professional body publications (e.g., PMI, AIPM), and government sources, but not lecture slides. A list of these references should be included as your final slide.

NOTE: You are expected to cite at least 6 peer-reviewed references in your presentation.

Your PowerPoint presentation is to be prepared for the organisation’s leadership team, and therefore should be written at a suitable professional level, using terms and concepts appropriate to them.

The following structure is recommended for your presentation:

• Initial slide – Title, graphic, names of presenters
• Analysis of case and statement of 3-4 issues identified
• Recommendations to address the causes of the issues
• Implementation plan to resolve the issues
• Conclusions
• Last slide - reference list

Component 2 – Word document

You are also to submit a description (1500 words) that outlines and analyses how your virtual group functioned.

1. Outline how your group went about establishing a plan to ensure successful completion of your assignment.
2. Using the Belbin self-assessment completed during week 5, outline the Belbin profile of your group, based on each member’s primary role. Were all roles covered? If not all Belbin types were identified, how did the group manage the roles/actions not covered?
3. How did your group go about the issue-cause-action process? How were decisions made in relation to the issues to cover, the potential causes and the recommendations for action? How did working in a team influence the way this process was carried out versus when you completed Assessment 1 alone?
4. Provide a brief description of how your group functioned.
   • What communication method/s was/were chosen and why?
   • Was a leader appointed or did a leader ‘emerge’?
   • What form did meetings take? How often did you meet? Did all group members attend these meetings?
   • Was a timeline, Gantt Chart or similar used to monitor progress toward completion?
   • If any submission/s was/were not received on time, how was this situation handled?
5. Overall, how well do you consider your virtual team operated? Analyse your group’s performance against best practice, using a minimum of 6 peer reviewed articles published since 2019 to support your critical analysis and support recommendations for improved future project team management. At least four of these articles should be additional to those used for your presentation.
