Task Description

Preamble

Task 1: Developing User Manual Structure

Dr Georgie Handel, your supervisor at Mendelssohn Technologies, has asked you to develop a User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business – Queen of Sheba Wedding Emporium. The User Manual must be designed to be displayed (and printed) as a book.

Create a single new word document and name the file - [lastname]  [initial] _ [student number] _ [course code] _ [assignment number] (eg. NerksF_0050051005_cis1000_assign2.docx). 

Ensure that the Components of a User Manual and Common Contents of a User Manual are presented in the order given in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Set up appropriate sections, headings, page headers and footers (including Roman and Arabic page numbering where appropriate) to display the Components of a User Manual and Common Contents of a User Manual identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials. 

Task 2: User Manual Contents

The User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business must contain the Components of a User Manual as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials, including: front covers, title page, edition notice, license agreement, table of contents (using Word Automatic Table of Contents tool), appendixes (where appropriate), glossary, index, and back cover. 

Task 3: User Manual Contents: Preface

The User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business must contain preface information you believe the client and users need to know about the product itself and an overview of the user manual for the Decision Support System (Assignment 1) as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Task 4: User Manual Contents: Precautionary Information

The User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business must contain any precautionary information you believe the client and users need to know such as ethical or privacy concerns that could arise from using the Decision Support System (Assignment 1) as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Task 5: User Manual Contents: Getting-Started Information

The User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business must contain any getting-started information you believe the client and users need to know to use the current Decision Support System (Assignment 1) with the current data. This should be in the form of a written getting-started information tutorial with visual aids (screen captures) as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Task 6: User Manual Contents: About the Product

The User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business must contain a description of the product and a review of its essential features as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Task 7: User Manual Contents: Instructions

The User Manual for Dr Wagner’s business must contain a step-by-step set of directions on how to assemble, operate, or troubleshoot the Decision Support System (Assignment 1) using new data and with visual aids (screen captures) as identified in the Non-Technical Writing: User Manual Theory Learning Activities and User Manual Practical Learning Activities found in the Study Materials.

Task 8: Referencing

Your User Manual should include in-text referencing and a List of References, including any references to materials obtained from the textbooks, websites and other reference materials.
