Essay Structure:
Cover page:
Give a title to your essay, e.g., BIM application in my profession as a graduate quantity surveyor.
Other relevant information: Course ID/title, your name and student ID.
Introduction:
Give background information of yourself, your role in the workplace. If you do not work, discuss your planned career path.
Discuss the use of BIM/GIS in your workplace. If you do not work, present the general use of BIM/GIS in your planned working field (e.g. architecture, project engineer, quantity surveyor).
Problems encountered:
In this section, you should Zoom in and talk about more specific issues in the field you chose (which you presented in Introduction section). For example, architectural design clashes with structural or mechanical design (BIM clash detection can help). Project manager wants to show the work sequences to the team members before a complicated assembly process can be done (4D BIM can help).
Usually multiple problems can be discussed.
Potential solutions by using BIM/GIS:
From what you learnt in this course and some literature, to the specific problems you presented in Item 3, discuss possible or potential solutions by using BIM/GIS (See Item 3 examples, but you need to discuss more details). You dont have to be sure about everything, you can propose a few possibilities.
It is expected multiple problems are identified. At the end, provide a summary, discuss whether these problems are interlinked, and can be resolved jointly, and how BIM/GIS and related technologies/software should be used.
Benefits/challenges in adopting BIM/GIS for your role and for your workplace:
Present how BIM/GIS can improve yourself/companys productivity, also what challenges for implementing the technologies. Give some practical suggestions/considerations, including staff training, extra cost of purchasing new software, etc.
Consider your workplace situation, staff education level, age, etc., discuss what kind of training is necessary. Use CONS0005 as an example, discuss whats the most effective way to learn BIM/GIS skills. If you do not work, discuss how you think that CONS0005 prepares you to use BIM/GIS in future work does it prepare you well enough? How do you think technology skills can be best taught and learnt?
