introduction

Presentation of data

A critique of the findings and data from the literature

Discussion

Conclusion

Recommendations

Reference list

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

LO 3 Critically appraise and evaluate the evidence in relation to the project topic to draw relevant conclusions.

Analyse and critique the quality of the sources you have used (LO3).

Draw conclusions about the quality of the source and about the quality and relevance of the information produced (LO3).

LO 4 Present and discuss research findings, justifying their relevance in developing or advancing current health and social practice within the scope of the topic.

Identify and discuss the key findings from your research (LO4).

Say how these findings relate to an area of practice or service provision (LO4).

Make a recommendation for a change that would have a positive impact on professional practice or service delivery in the area you have studied LO4).

AT LEAST ten sources for your literature review assessment, of which AT LEAST six sources should be peer reviewed journal articles. This 6 has to be Medline/CINAHL plus/pub med/google schoolar

You will learn throughout the course how to effectively find credible sources of evidence for your assessment.

Please note that the sources listed are expected for your written assessment. These sources will be part of the module and their content is deemed necessary to produce a relevant assessment. Module markers will expect to see them integrated into your work and appropriately referenced.

Failure to include these sources may result in a Viva Voce meeting during which you would be required to explain your work and your reasons for not including these key sources.

Practical Task

You will be asked to explain your research strategy, present your literature and defend your selection criteria in a viva style presentation format. You will be responding to one of the topics and questions below. These will be the same topics and questions that you will base your literature review on for your 4000 word report. The literature you select and present will also form the research base for your literature review. In your viva, you will be expected to present the following:

Your research strategy

A brief synopsis of each of your literature sources, including the aim, methodology used (if appropriate), and key findings.

The rationale for the choice of each source and its relevance to your research project.

The viva will take a maximum of 7 minutes. You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate an understanding of research strategy and methodology, defend and explain your choice of literature, and your clarity of expression.

Topic Question

Cost of living crisis and mental health What is the impact of the cost-of living crisis on mental health in the UK and how are health and social care services responding to this?

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

LO1. Identify a specific project area for investigation that is relevant to current health and social care practice.

LO2. Identify, select and justify the use of appropriate techniques, methods and strategies to gather relevant data and evidence to investigate the project topic.

Student Checklist for UMH Assessment 010 (Practical)

Please use this as a guide to check your work before submission

Introduction

I have introduced the research question and stated my aims and objectives clearly.

I have given a background to my study, with citations, and introduced the key terms.

IF I have chosen to focus the research question on a specific area or population group, I have explained this and given a rationale for my decision.

I have explained my search strategy, including my inclusion/exclusion criteria.

Presentation of Data Section 30 marks (Including Introduction)

I have begun the section with a brief introduction stating what the purpose of the section is and reminding the reader of the research question.

I have described each source, explaining the aims of the research, the methods used, the key findings and how the source is relevant to my research.

IF I chose to combine the presentation of data section with the research critique section, I have explained clearly at the beginning of the section that this is what I will do so the reader knows to expect it.

I have cited my sources clearly using Harvard referencing citation format.

Critique of the Research Section 30 marks

I have begun the section with a brief introduction stating what the purpose of the section is and reminding the reader of the research question.

If I used a framework to critique my sources, I have explained what this framework is and cited the source of the framework.

I have identified the methodological strengths and any possible limitations, in relation to my research aims, of at least six of my sources.

I understand that in this section I am demonstrating the research literacy I have learned in UMH by focusing my critique on the research methods of the sources I have used, rather than critiquing the practice-based elements (I can do this in the discussion and recommendations section of my literature review).

I have cited my sources clearly using Harvard referencing citation format.

Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations Section 30 marks

I have begun the section with a brief introduction stating what the purpose of the section is and reminding the reader of the research question.

I have identified the key themes from my literature review research and discussed these in paragraph form, explaining clearly their relation to the research question.

IF I chose to use and apply a model to my findings, I have introduced what this model is, explained its relevance, cited its source, and applied it to my discussion.

I have written a brief conclusion summarising the literature review and key findings.

I have written recommendations that build on my research findings, are specific and focus on quality rather than quantity.

I have cited my sources clearly using Harvard referencing citation format.

Structure of the Report 10 marks

I have used an appropriate report structure.

My title page includes the name of the report and my student ID but NOT my name.

I have included an abstract after the title page.

I have included a table of contents after my abstract.

I have included my reference list at the end of the report, using Harvard Referencing format, in alphabetical order.

I have saved my work with an appropriate title that does not include my name, knowing that this is what the markers will see on the Turnitin portal.

I have spell and grammar checked my work.

If I have included quotations in my work, I have used quotation marks and cited these with the page number of the text, in order to avoid plagiarism offenses.

I have cross checked my work with the marking rubric included in the assessment guidelines (because I know this is what the markers will use to mark my work).

I have made absolutely sure that I will get an A++ before submitting my work

Mental Health and Well-being

I will not leave everything until the night before the deadline.

I will keep myself well fed, drink plenty of water, and breathe and sleep properly.

If I feel overwhelmed, I will take a break, go for a walk or lie down in a quiet place.

After I submit my work, I will treat myself to something nice and not stress about it.

I will remember that I can always have a second chance.
