This might help. This too. Heres another resource.

The above examples are very basic. Yours will be more detailed.

This assignment should get you to think both critically and creatively about yourself.

You may present this assignment in any way you wish. It may be provided like a brand book, or a report; or a detailed infographic; or an instruction sheet; or a slide show. User Manual

A personal user manual is a creative and critical exercise that is meant to provide context and instructions about how to get the best out of you. Wouldnt it be fantastic if, before meeting people, before getting into groups, before preparing for an important meeting we could all exchange personal user manuals? By doing so, we could all be subject to less awkwardness - we would know what topics to avoid and how to connect with each other; fewer social mishaps - we would know how to address each other without offense, we would understand quirks for what they are...quirks, rather than purposeful annoyances; we could skip to efficient collaboration - there would be less time needed to develop trust, understanding and context, we would already know how to work with each other.

Think about a user manual you would get with a new product or service. Think about a detailed set of instructions.

Some of the things you should consider including are:

  • intro/biography

  • What you like to be called, what you do not like to be called

  • Things people can say that will motivate you

  • Things people can say that will offend you or make you shut down

  • Your style - how you like to be managed, how you manage, how others would describe you

  • Favourites - quotes, books, sports, seasons, foods, etc.

  • When/where/how do you work best and worst

  • What matters to you and what does not

  • What people look to you for, the things people seek your council for

  • What you value - in yourself and others

  • The things you have no patience for - pet peeves, anxiety-ridden situations

  • Your communication style - how to communicate with you, how to deal with you in meetings, the kind of communication styles you interact well with, how to give you feedback

  • Good topics of conversation, bad ones

  • How others can help you - when others should step in when they should not

  • Things that make you feel valued and appreciated

  • Cues to look for (good and bad)

  • Perceived strengths and weaknesses

  • The things people misunderstand about you

  • Warnings - dont push the following buttons

  • Basic operating instructions - scheduling, environment, fuel, care and maintenance

  • Avoid personal injury

  • Troubleshooting - FAQs or regular issues and how to address them

  • Testimonial (get a friend or family member to provide a statement)

  • In case of emergency

Your document can be written in the first person or the third. It must only be consistent. Think about what kind of voice accurately represents you and use it. Before you submit this assignment, let someone who knows you well read it. They will help you decide if you need to add or change something.
