CRIM1104 Infographic Assignment
- Subject Code :
CRIM1104
- Country :
Australia
Task
Infographics are an important visual representation tool that you will likely need to know how to create as a professional/in the workplace, particularly within the criminal justice field. You may be asked to prepare reports, present data, create websites and edit them, including the use of detailed and visually engaging infographics.
For this task, students must draw from THREE different sources of knowledge/information to respond to/challenge ONE of the following common crime myths as it relates to South Australia:
- People are more at risk of harm from strangers.
- Crime is on the rise.
- Suburbs are safer than cities.
- Youth offenders are all violent.
Students should consider the following prompts to guide their response, noting that there are two components to address:
1) Infographic creation; and 2) Self-reflection.
- Infographic must include these elements (presented on separate slides, equiv. to 750 words):
- Description of your chosen crime myth.
- Identification of the nature or prevalence of the problem (i.e., what, where, how much?).
- Information about the key features or characteristics of the type of crime identified (i.e., for whom, its impacts, risks, etc.).
- Information, written in plain language that provides at least three broad strategies to guide the community in how the risks of the chosen issue might be mitigated/reduced (though be mindful to avoid victim blaming).
- Brief self-reflection (250 words), discussing your own reaction to the data presented in your infographic and the process of creating it, and whether this information would change how you act/behave in the context relevant to your chosen myth and why (i.e., would you do anything differently, if so, why?)?
