CTITE 4 -Initial Teacher Education Assignment
You will consider 3 scenarios that describe a commonly encountered form of ‘off-task’ or low-level classroom misbehaviour. You will need to explore a variety of approaches to handling the situation and present your findings.
The assessment task has three parts. This assessment task involves a staggered submission. Part A and B are to be completed and submitted prior to placement. Part C is completed and submitted immediately after the placement. The result will be available within 3 weeks of PART C submission.
PART A - Statement of classroom management philosophy
Articulate a personal philosophy in relation to classroom management with reference to theories and approaches studied (800 words).Your personal philosophy should consider the following:
• managing common classroom behaviours
• legal and ethical requirements of teachers
• strategies for providing safe and supportive learning environments
PART B – Classroom scenarios
Discuss approaches to 3 classroom management scenarios with reference to the stated philosophy in PART A, and theories/approaches studied. Two scenarios will be provided, and you should construct a third scenario which outlines a common ‘low level’ (e.g. annoying, mildly disruptive, offtask) classroom misbehaviour. (1200 words)
For each scenario, your discussion should:

• Evaluate and utilise a range of practical strategies for managing common classroom behaviours
• Discuss legal and ethical requirements of teachers
• Describe policies and strategies for providing safe and supportive learning environments
PART C – Critical reflection
Following placement, write a critical reflection which demonstrates growth in your understanding of practical strategies for managing classroom behaviours. Link with theories and approaches studied,making reference to experiences on placement and your stated philosophy in PART A. (500 words)
