Assignment Purpose:

Through this assignment you will explore an issue or debate regarding the curriculum in a particular primary subject area. For primary pupils you will focus on the English or maths curriculum, or another chosen curriculum area to be agreed with your tutor.

Word count: 4,000 5,000 words (excluding reference list & appendix).

Introduction Explain the subject area that you are going to explore About 500 words

Main section/ Literature review In this section you will need to explore the literature regarding an aspect of your subject curriculum.

The discussion needs to be supported by literature.

Aspects of the curriculum should be used to exemplify or illustrate the discussion. 3,000 to 4,000 words

Literature needs to include subject specific books and articles as well as generic texts.

Conclusion Draws the work together and how this relates to your future practice. About 500 words

Reference section Cite the readings you draw on in the assignment (Harvard referencing) The length of the reference section will depend on the aspect of the curriculum you have chosen. This section is not included in the word count.

Appendices You do not have to include an appendix, but it may be useful if you are referring to specific documents. This section is not included in the word count.
