Description / Requirements of the Assignment

GROUP REPORT AND ORAL PRESENTATION

Your team has formed a consulting firm specialising in organisational change and development for firms or companies doing business in emerging and developing economies. MTS (the same focal organisation that you worked on Assessment 1) has contracted out your consulting firm to assist them in addressing the challenges faced by the company.

Your team needs to identify a specific individual (within the top management of the focal organisations) to which your group work will be addressed.

An essential element of your engagement with MTS (and with that specific member of the top management team) is to offer your advice on the critical issues current or emerging that will impact the company's current business operations and prospects. MTS has conveyed to your team several challenges and problems besetting the company. However, MTS has specifically asked your team to help identify one (1) MOST CRITICAL ISSUE, PROBLEM, or OPPORTUNITY that should be discussed in the upcoming board meeting of MTS's top management.

Task 1: The Group Report

Your main task is to write a report (for that specific individual at MTS) that comprehensively but concisely addresses the following:

Identify, describe and explain the significance of one (1) critical organisational issue, problem, or opportunity based on your understanding of the situation presented and written in the case.

Draw on two (2) relevant organisational theories we have covered beginning week three as lenses or perspectives in examining the chosen organisational issue, problem or opportunity deeply.

The team may choose two of the following theories:Structural Contingency Theory (SCT), Systems Theory, and Institutional Theory (any of the two variants only; choosing the two variants of IT will also constitute the two required theories in this assessment)

Draw on the same organisational theories to offer or suggest to MTS (i.e. to the specific individual you have identified to report to) plausible solutions, remedies, interventions, decisions, or actions to address or mitigate or exploit the organisational issue, problem or opportunity in favour of the company.

This task expects you to draw on the relevant topics, readings, and other resources available in this subject and the UTS library (such as academic journal databases) as references.

This learning activity will challenge your ability to engage in collaborative learning with peers as you go through the process of writing and presenting the report and its key findings.

You will do well in this assignment if you build on the theories and concepts we have covered in this subject (i.e. reference books, lectures, tutorials, workshops, readings, hand-outs, and links through our CANVAS site).

The assignment has a total limit of 2,500 words (with a margin of 10%). Please indicate the ACTUAL number of words on the front cover of your Word document. There is no minimum number of words. Your team will not be penalised if you have a report much shorter than the maximum number of words set for this assessment. This assessment emphasises the quality of your analysis and the effective presentation of your arguments through a written business report.

Please use Times New Roman or Arial, font 12, double space, 1-inch margin on all sides. Cite the references that you have used using Harvard or APA style. Be consistent with your style. The reference list is NOT counted in the maximum number of words.

You will submit/upload your assignment in a Word document file to an Assignment folder on our CANVAS site.

Point of View

You are allowed to use first (e.g. We propose that), second person (e.g. You need to address) or third person (e.g. This analysis shows that) in your point of view. Be consistent throughout the document. Remember, you are presenting this report to a specific individual at MTS.

Suggested Structure of the Report

You may follow the structure suggested below:
