Design a renewable-based energy system to provide electricity and heating/cooling for a small remote community.
- Country :
United Kingdom
The following should be seriously considered in the analysis:
- Use EES/Matlab for the analysis and design calculations
- Analyze it thermodynamically by writing all balance equations (mass, energy, entropy, exergy) for all system components.
- Calculate all energy and exergy capacities and exergy destructions for all systemcomponents.
- Conduct a performance evaluation through energy and exergy efficiencies (andexergy destructions).
- Discuss the performance, cost, resource use, environmental impact andsustainability aspects, and show overall benefits of your system.
- Perform a parametric study to show how system performance is affected by varyingoperating and environmental conditions.
Project Report: The project must have the following format, at a minimum.
1) Executive summary
2) Table of content
3) Introduction (highlight the importance of the topic, present some background aboutthe system, and state the specific objectives).
4) System Description (describe the design developed, and system and systemcomponents, with the flow diagrams and/or sketches, etc.)
5) Analysis (present the theory, concepts, balance equations, assumptions, models, etc.)
6) Results and Discussion (present your results in graphs and tables and theirdiscussion in detail)
7) Conclusions (state main findings of your project)
8) Acknowledgement (if applicable)
9) Nomenclature (list all symbols used in your report, with the corresponding SI units
10) List of references
11) Appendix (if applicable)
Additional guidelines for the project:
- An exact location/territory has to be chosen for the study, as details provided haveto reflect on real-life data
- Specifications of the location has to be reported with references such as the size of thecommunity, population, power needs, and environment temperature.
- Clearly state the commodities that your system is providing (quantities deliveredshould also be optimized based on the region needs)
- Clearly state the renewable energy source/s you are using to run your system whilekeeping in mind the availability of these sources in the chosen region.
- For the deigned system, report the performance in terms of energy and exergyefficiencies as well as fuel savings.
- Briefly explain how you can improve the proposed system, and what are thelimitations to start using such systems.
