Context
Inequality within and among nations continues to be a significant concern despite progress in and efforts at narrowing disparities of opportunity, income, and power. The United Nations Global Compact is a non-binding United Nations pact that aims to encourage businesses and firms worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to annually report on their implementation. The Compact is a principle-based framework for businesses, outlining ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption.
In regard to labour the four principles are:
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
