Assignment overviewIn gathering assessment evidence to inform decision-making processesfor childrens earlyreading development, a number of instruments and techniques are available, from tests to arange of more inclusive data-gathering procedures.It is crucial to have an in-depth understandingof how to apply a range of assessments and how to utilise the information gained from theseassessments to help develop childrens skills in reading.
This assessment folio provides you withan opportunity to demonstrate your understandingof how to conduct a miscue analysisusing arunning recordexample,andhow to develop andevaluatea couple of learning experiences or lesson plansusing the results from miscue analysis. It is important to note that a running record is one of many assessment tools that provides insight into childrens early reading development.A running record can be used to supplement othertests and assessments of early reading to help inform teaching and learning.
There is a requirement of a minimum of 10 references which includes at least 3 academicjournal articlesfor this assessment folio. You can cite evidence fromacademicresearch,theEYLF document orthe Australian Curriculum (or state/territoryequivalents), and other relevanteducation sources.

Critically discuss a range of assessments for reading.
Define running records and critically discuss this method of reading assessment.
Explain how an inclusive approach can inform the decision-making process for teaching and learning in early reading development.
Miscue analysis (approximately 500 words) Conduct a miscue analysis using ONE of the following examples of a running record (i.e. identifying graphophonic, grammatical or semantic miscues) and present your key findings.

Supporting and extending childrens learning of phonics and reading vocabulary (approximately 800 words) Using the results from your miscue analysis, you are required to develop and evaluate a learning experience (early childhood context) or a lesson plan (early years primary context) that utilises a childrens book to support and extend childrens learning of phonics and reading vocabulary.
