In this task, you willresearch and discussa potential future career pathways that your degree programme could open up for you.  You will explain your interest behind your choice of degree programme and career and will explore the key professional skills that you will need to acquire during your degree, and then use on the job.

This task is a reflective piece of writing, and you are required to respond to the four sub-headings below and the bullet points in each one.

Paragraph(s) 1 - Career research (delete subheading and bullet points before submission)

  • Using the prospects.ac.uk website, research and describe in your own words a graduate-level career pathway that is of interest to you.
  • Explain what the career pathway involves, including roles and responsibilities, and how your chosen industry promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace.
  • You should include references to some of the concepts and theories found in iLearn lessons 5 and 7.

Paragraph(s) 2 - Career motivation (delete subheading and bullet points before submission)

  • Explain your interest in this career. What attracts you to this role?
  • Consider and discuss the potential long-term implications of your career choice. This may include job stability, work-life balance, and the potential for personal and professional growth.
  • You should include references to some of the concepts and theories found in iLearn lesson 3.

Paragraph(s) 3 - Degree choice (delete subheading and bullet points before submission)

  • How does your degree programme relate to your career choice? Is your current degree programme the best option – or is there a degree that is a better fit?
  • You should review iLearn lesson 2 when writing this section.

Paragraph(s) 4 - Professional and digital skills (delete subheading and bullet points before submission)

  • Graduate-level jobs require a wide range of professional and digital skills. Discuss what you think appear to be the two most important professional skills, and one digital skill needed for the role you have discussed in this task.
  • In Task 2, you will be required to evaluate the same three skills.

Task 2: SMART action goals - maximising your potential (LO2, LO3: 1000 words)

In the previous task, you identified two key professional and one digital skill that would be needed in your graduate role.  In this task, you will evaluate your current aptitude in these professional/digital skills, identifying your current strengths and weaknesses. You will then write a SMART action goal, where you will detail what you need to do next to further develop this skill. In your SMART action goal, you should make reference to the wide range of resources that can help you succeed in your future career that you have been introduced to throughout this module (e.g., Arden Futures).

SMART stands for: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
