Task - Fact-Checking Evidence and Professional Scepticism Report and Reflection

Statement: Most of the reduced fat departs the body as water during weight loss.

Requirement

Evaluate whether a statement provided is true or false before any investigation is undertaken. Collect and justify three levels of evidence related to the statement provided: one minimal piece of evidence, one corroborating piece of evidence and one persuasive piece of evidence. Then write a report concluding whether they believe the statement is still true or false after investigation, using the evidence collected to support their position.

The report must also include a reflection on the following questions:

what they have learnt from the fact-checking assessment in relation to the auditors role in identifying and reporting frauds and errors.

how and what they have learnt from this assessment can be applied to the auditing practice and profession.

the importance and relevance of fact-checking in the role of audit and assurance services within Australia and worldwide.

Construct relevant, logical arguments based on initial analysis.

Provide appropriate evidence for statement justification.

Present clear and appropriate conclusions based on analysis provided.

Reflect on how to integrate experiences into current and/or future practice.
