From your own perspective, the peer appraisal and documentation write a 500-word reflection on the handwashing and vital signs activity answering the following three questions based on the plan, do, review and CICO model of self-reflection. You are required to refence your Q 1 and Q3 responses from relevant literature.
Your weekly readings can be used to support your reflections.
Plan:
1. How did you plan for this assessment task? What knowledge were you intending to transfer and apply from your weekly learnings to complete the skills? (type your response into text box below and remember to reference your response).
I have completed all the before coming to class activities from week 9 and reviewed the National Safety and Quality Health Safety standards (NSQHS), Preventing and controlling infection standard, action 3.8( NSQHS, 2021). Action 3.8 is important because it supports Action 3.5 which identifies that hand hygiene is key in minimising infection transmission and controls the spread of disease.
I have planned to include the legal aspects of consent (Heaton, 2021). I am also aware of the importance of following correct practices related to patient identification and documentation (Courtney-Pratt, 2021). I have reviewed and practiced doing sets of vital signs and documenting my findings each week in the lead up to the assessment task (Govid & Pich, 2021).
I have reviewed table 27.1( Levett-Jones, 2021, p. 494-5) which offered me a number of communication skills to apply while I was completing the patient assessment activity.
I have practiced the How to handrub as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) guide (WHO, 2009) and watched the appropriate videos on the NUR111 Canvas site (USC NUR111, 2022).

I completed the required handrub and my peer feedback indicates I completed the task successfully. I collected all the required equipment and accurately measured a set of vital signs and documented the findings.
I used effective communication to obtain patient consent. I sought verbal consent before proceeding with the set of vital signs Throughout the procedure I built and maintained a therapeutic relationship with the patient through the use of eye contact, explaining what I was doing at each step and trying to look confident in my practice.
I was mindful to ensure patient details were correct and ensured the patient identification band matched the patient documentation.

3. What do I still need to do to master the clinical practices? (type your response into text box below. Remember to reference your response)
Though I was successful in completing a handrub, a set of vital signs and documenting my findings I still need to be able to complete this task in a timely manner when my actions are fluid and confident as this will strengthen my engagement in therapeutic and professional relationship as indicated in Standard 2 of the Registered Nurse Standards of Practice (Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA), 2016, p. 4).
Though I am effective at colleting a set of vital signs my next objective is to be able to interpret the data collected. This will be extend my practice by meeting Registered Nurse Standards of Practice Four by comprehensively conducting assessments. Collecting a set of vital signs is step one and two of the nursing process (NMBA, 2016, p. 5).
Reviewing my hand hygiene practice I need to be mindful of when this action needs to be applied and follow the 5 moments of hand hygiene to the letter (HAA, 2000). I recognise the importance of safety in practice and this understanding is expressed through preforming under the requirements of standard six of the Registered Nurse Standards of Practice (NMBA, 2016, p. 5).
