The most important strategies for mental health improvement are described in the framework of the WHO Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030 (World Health Organization, 2022). For two principles, i.e., Empowerment of lived experience and Multisectoral action, I will describe the actions to improve mental health care for individuals and encourage a favourable approach.

1. Empowerment of Lived Experience

The people who suffer from such mental health disorders need to be empowered to be able to lead a normal life. Thus, by increasing autonomy, confidence, and mental health, we can provide a positive setting for peers, and engage individuals in choices that will make them feel more comfortable (Picton et al., 2018).

Creating a Safe Space

It is crucial to ensure that people are open enough to reveal what they went through or what they are going through. This is the place where there should be no negative judgment, stigma, or criticism people should feel comfortable and open. Some ways of handling conflicts and making it possible to create the space include relating well, being open and getting into agreements about the limits of the safety that is required such as confidentiality and respecting space by listening to the clients (Picton et al., 2018; Bhanot & Verma, 2020). It fosters the communication of the patients narrative, emotions and phobias, and makes such a patient accept that they are not alone in their fight anymore.

Fostering Peer Connections

Support groups for peers allow individuals to share their experiences with others who have undergone the same process. These groups encourage togetherness and negation of loneliness which is very essential to the wellbeing of participants. People have a chance to listen and exchange with other people, to get a different outlook on life and to get to know other ways of dealing with it. Equally important is a note on the positive impacts of peer support groups as they enhance the elements of empathy and understanding, and, more importantly, enable users to regain their sense of control (Fortuna et al., 2020).

Involving Individuals in Decision-Making

It is important to engage people in decision-making concerning their health. Using self-advocacy in the management of their conditions, different people can be assured of control over their requirements as well as choices (Roennfeldt & Byrne, 2021). It ensures that individuals are independent, can speak for themselves, and be in charge of their lives. People will stick to treatment and treatment plans and act responsibly when they feel involved in the process (Bhanot & Verma, 2020; Roennfeldt & Byrne, 2021). In this way, embracing the input of the patient can help avoid situations, where a person feels they are not being considered as an individual and their opinion is not valued in the process of receiving the mental health care they need.

2. Multisectoral Action

Encouraging multisectoral efforts is essential for addressing the multifaceted needs of clients with mental health disorders. By partnering with other organizations, engaging other stakeholders, and participating in awareness programs, it is possible to reach out to as many people as possible and address mental health issues without leaving anyone behind (Azzopardi et al., 2021).

Collaborating with Local Organizations

Engagement with the community, schools, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and so on is critical for the target demographic and the services needed. Furthermore, these targeted groups are typically simpler to discover than other organizations since they already have pre-existing relationships with the community (Daya et al., 2019). This is why collaborating with community groups is beneficial since we can leverage their knowledge, manpower, and relationships to provide the best treatment. Such approaches involve providing mental health services outside of clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare settings, in schools, community centres, and other widely accessible locations (Daya et al., 2019).

Interdisciplinary Teams: Holistic Care

Collaboration with other staff from other departments is crucial because it ensures that care is given to meet the clients physical, psychological and social requirements. Such teams should involve psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, general physicians, and other professionals. These care teams are able to share information, skills and other resources in order to provide better and integrated care (Azzopardi et al., 2023). ID teams may also bring attention to factors that have an influence on mental health, including housing facilities, jobs, or schools, which will have general well-being benefits.

Awareness Campaigns: Stigma Statistics and Early Detection

It is important also to organize awareness campaigns as these can help in reducing mental health stigma and encourage early intervention. Such campaigns may assist in informing the public and removing the stigma associated with mental health issues, which dissuades people from seeking treatment (Bhanot & Verma, 2020; Azzopardi et al., 2023). Caring for ones mental health, getting the appropriate help, or helping friends and family who have mental disorders is possible if there are mental health promotions. Information, education, and communication also inform system-level barriers to healthcare and assist in the development of a supportive society.
