use below information to help SECTION B: HISTORY AND CURRENT OPERATIONS OF PETERS ICE CREAM AND FRONERI INTERNATIONAL Peters Ice Cream is an iconic Australian ice cream brand dating back to 1907. Over the years, Peters Ice Cream has developed significant market share and popularity, known for their quality, variety and innovation within the industry. The brand originally started as a family owned business, producing ice cream in a small shed to be sold locally around Manly. In the following years, the company began to gain significant popularity through their reputation of producing and selling quality ice cream, and successful marketing. Peters Ice Cream began to develop significant market share, expanding their operations within Australia to become one of the key Australian ice cream companies. By the mid 20th century, Peters Ice Cream held significant market share within the ice cream sector. Within this sector, which generated approximately $1 billion in revenue each year, Peters made 25% of this, generating $250 million in sales per year (Hopkins, 2007). Currently, the ice cream sectors revenue has grown at a CAGR of 3.8% over the past five years to reach an estimated $1.5bn in 2024 (Ice Cream Manufacturing in Australia - Market Size, Industry Analysis, Trends and Forecasts (2023-2028)| IBISWorld, 2023) see Appendix 1, of which, Peters Ice Cream holds significant market share. Through their successful marketing, consistent quality, and sale of Peters Ice Cream to a UK firm in 2012, Peters Ice Cream currently holds a 95% share of the Australian ice cream market in tandem with the Streets Ice Cream Company (ACCC vs. Peters Ice Cream Report | Free Essay Examples, 2023). Their revenue in 2024 is currently $526.3 million dollars, and is expected to increase (Ice Cream Manufacturing in Australia - Market Size, Industry Analysis, Trends and Forecasts (2023-2028)| IBISWorld, 2023). What comparison do we require? The comparison we require to conduct for Peters Ice Cream brand in Australia is the means of the consumption quantity of the ice cream (Q24) across multiple brand familiarity (Q2_1) groups. In this test I will apply the ANOVA test using the SPSS statistical software. Running some descriptive statistics / drawing a histogram From the descriptive statistics above, Peters ice cream consumption appears to hold a higher moderately familiar (mu = 2.00, SD = 1.000) position in the Australian ice cream market share, despite having the largest deviation, followed by extremely familiar category (mu=1.65, SD=0.996). As a result, it is correct to say that Peters Ice cream brand is widely recognized. Specifying a null hypothesis There are no significant differences between the means of consumption of Peters Ice Cream across multiple brand familiarity groups. Testing the hypothesis In this test, we will take Q24-consumption variable as the dependent variable and Q2_1 as the independent variable, and thus conduct an ANOVA test. SPSS Results: Homogeneity Test This Levene statistics test checks for equality of variance. Since the significance based on median is above 0.05, thus homogeneity of variance is assumed. This test is consistent with Tukey HSD test, where the sig > 0.05, proving equality of variance across the multiple groups. ANOVA test From the ANOVA test, the significance mean of consumption across multiple brand familiarity grouping has a p-value (0.053) > 0.05, which means the difference reported in the above tests is insignificant. Thus, we do not reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the means are equal across the multiple groups. Post-Hoc Test Since the equality of variance is assumed, Tukey is considered as the post-hoc test. By comparing each category of brand familiarity with other categories to show which two categories are significantly different, this test shows that moderately familiar and not familiar at all categories are statistically significant (p=0.027 < 0.05)
