Background

Although the majority of Australians experience good health, some groups within the population have higher rates of health conditions (morbidity) and are more likely to die prematurely (mortality).

The objective of this essay is for you to explore the range of determinants that contribute to health inequalities for a specific population group. Health inequalities refer to “differences in health status or in the distribution of health determinants between different population groups” (WHO, 2018).

Using data, you will identify a health inequality experienced by a specific population group. Then, you will use evidence to explore the range of determinants that contribute to these inequalities.

This assignment relates to the Unit Learning Objectives of:

1. Evaluatethe contemporary context of health and related systems in Australia;
2. Explain the complexity of health challenges, including the sociocultural,biological, and environmental factors that impact health and disease; and,
3. Explainand assess the role of different types of evidence to different health 

Topic: Choose one specific health condition that disproportionately affects a population group in Australia and discuss the determinants that explain the high prevalence of this condition in this population.
