Group poster presentation Aims and Background

The objective of this presentation is for you to demonstrate your understanding of how health and related systems can work together to address a complex health issue. Health systems include services provided by health professionals that focus on treatment, rehabilitation, health promotion, and disease prevention. Health-related systems address the determinants of health and include housing, education, agriculture, industry, transport, communication and technology, and the legal system etc.

This assignment relates to the Unit Learning Outcomes:

1. Explain the complexity of health challenges, including the socio-cultural, biological, and environmental factors that impact health and disease
2. Explain and assess the role of different types of evidence to different health problems
3. Apply knowledge in a healthcare context

Instructions: PART A

Topic: How do health and related systems* work together to address complex health issues?

The focus of HEA10001 is on Australia, however you may include comparisons to health and related systems in another country if you provide a strong justification.

1. Your group (4-5 students) will need to choose a health issue that interests you.

2. Prepare a poster using PowerPoint to present your findings. Your poster must include:

• A title
• Authors The following sections:
• Health issue
• Determinants of health issue
• Health systems
• Health-related systems

It might help to consider what a patient’s journey from symptom development, diagnosis, treatment, to recovery might be, and what health and health related systems and professionals might be involved in this trajectory.

The key skill is to be clear, concise, and creative with appropriate and strategic use of words/images/visuals to get your message across. The poster word limit is 550 words not including references, so this is an exercise in improving your academic communication skills.

Instructions: PART B

Using the STAR format, each student will individually write a summary (300-words) of how you worked cooperatively and collaboratively with others in your group, to achieve the common goal or outcome (i.e. the group poster)

• Situation describe the nature of the project, its purpose, who was involved, and why it was important.
• Task describe your specific responsibilities and what you needed to achieve.
• Action Explain how you approached the project, the steps you took to implement the project and how you overcame obstacles using your experience, skills, and resources.
• Results Share the results including the specific benefits and impact.
