Scenario:

High-tech Alarms is a Sydney-based manufacturer of security alarms and monitoring products. The company has been expanding its business locally as well as overseas. To keep up with the increasing demand, the company is currently considering the establishment of a manufacturing plant overseas to keep production costs down.

The country where they plan to acquire/build a production facility is yet to be decided, but it is going to be one of the developing countries where the cost of labour is cheaper than in Australia.

Furthermore, High-tech Alarms is currently negotiating with an Industrial Control Systems (ICS) company in Germany to become its sales agent for the European Union.

The company was recently advised that it should also consider providing monitoring services to end-users of its products. It was told that its use of the AWS Cloud infrastructure gives it an advantage as it could monitor systems in many different countries using AWS services. The company realised that this could give it a competitive advantage over its competitors as well as provide useful data on how its products were used and the type of data collected.

The MD has been told that he should develop a strategy to provide for the protection of data and prevention of privacy loss across the company and its different storage sites in AWS and their on-premises data centre. He has been told of the possible benefits that may come from the use of a zero-trust security model, but he is somewhat sceptical about the practicality of using a zero-trust security model in the DR Alarms environment.

Your Tasks:

You have been engaged in researching and reviewing possible data protection and privacy loss prevention strategies for High-tech Alarms. One of these strategies would be to implement a zero-trust security model. You are asked to write a report that addresses the following points in the context of the High-tech Alarms case study given above.

Task # 1:

Based on the High-tech Alarms case study given above, introduce and explain the main benefits of deploying a zero-trust security model for such an environment. Please note this should be an introduction to and benefits of a generic zero-trust security model as you are arguing that implementing a zero-trust security model would be a good idea for the company. (25 marks)

Task # 2:

Explain some of the main advantages and disadvantages of using AWS's zero-trust security model (building on the first point, now you are presenting your proposal with the specific AWS zero-trust security model as an example). Compare and contrast the AWS zero-trust security model with any other zero-trust security model. The selection of another zero-trust security model is your choice, however, keep in mind that you are advocating for the AWS zero-trust security model. (10+15 marks)

Task # 3:

Prepare an AWS zero trust implementation plan and proposal for High-tech Alarms. The plan should include a step-by-step implementation strategy (20 marks), and mention the potential risks and challenges (and their solutions) that may appear during the implementation phase (20 marks) (Total = 40 marks)

You are to submit your report containing the above points. Use conceptual diagrams of your own wherever possible. The report should also have a short introduction at the beginning and a summary at the end.

Your report should have a word limit of 3000 words ( 10%). Your report is to be fully referenced using the APA 7th edition style.
